BANGKOK — We may never know what beautiful paintings prompted a senior Thai bureaucrat to steal them during his stay at a hotel in Japan as alleged earlier this week. But we can certainly appreciate the flurry of memes that burst forth like colors on a canvas.

Suphat Saguandeekul, 60, was arrested in Kyoto on Tuesday after he reportedly stole three paintings from the hallway of the hotel he was staying in an official business trip. Japanese media said Suphat confessed to the theft of the artefacts, which cost about 6,600 baht in total.

He may have been away from home so long that he forgot not being in LOS  that as a big wheel he was not immune from arrest in Japan. What a dum dum

Don't glorify this, it is not a caper!!! No need to call inspector Clouseau.

This was just another immoral Thai official that was so stupid and arrogant he thought he could get away with stealing anything he wants just like he does back at home in Thailand.

He has no business holding a position as head of intellectual properties.

The world is watching (and laughing) Thailand, for once, do the right thing and make someone accountable for their actions.

Your blowing smoke on this one if you expect accountability. Under wraps in a distant post for 6 months if your lucky.

The world doesn't care about Thailand. It's a small insignificant backwater financially, politically and socially. But don't tell the locals, who believe every world leader plans their policy around Thailand.

It's clearly all a misunderstanding.

When Suphat asked at reception "Is it alright if I take some pictures?" The receptionist thought he meant to take some photographs of the hotel, and told him it would be OK.
