BANGKOK: -- THE CONSTITUTION Drafting Committee (CDC) is trying to ensure the country realises educational reform from a fresh perspective by recommending the establishment of an independent panel, CDC Meechai Ruchuphan chairman said yesterday.

Meechai added that the panel should include outsiders with a deep understanding of educational affairs who enjoy widespread recognition and are open-minded.

“Members of the country’s educational sector have failed to step out of the old box. Without a fresh perspective, the sector will just be trapped with the same old problems,” he said during a meeting held by the Office of the Education Council.

The front on this guy talking about open minded and people stepping out of the box or being faced with the same old problems. How many years has this geriatric been writing Constitutions that have been thrown out?

Hullo , must be that time again another Education fix ,  there's been that many Education reforms in Thailand they are getting  like ar!!les , everyone has one............................................:cheesy:

They must have an advent calendar-like reminder for each of the reforms?

OK, it's Tuesday, time to trot out something on Education Reform.

Not to mention another "panel du jour".

"Independent" panel? So all military, but all branches for the added aroma of "independence"?

Welcome to the Junta Cafe, today's special panel is "corruption", and our reform entree is "politicians".

Same old same old. 15 years in Thai schools.
Attitudes didn't change. Money is the main goal with the private schools. Shut down the useless private schools instead of putting all the under achieving students in them, then the overall standards will improve.

Reform would be teach reading, writing and arithmetic with teachers who actually got paid appropriately, and showed up to class to actually teach.  Children's parents would need make sure they get to school on time everyday.  Children who put forth no effort to pass will be failed.

It seems they don't have much hope about this reform and don't want to take responsibilities for it, as they prefer to appoint outsiders to the panel...

Firstly, there never seems to be any willingness by Government/s to use knowledgeable outsiders to assist in solving problems of any sort - good luck Meechai on that one. Your heart and commonsense is in the right place though.

Secondly, there never seems to be any willingness, by the upper classes to truly educate the lower classes in case they challenge the "establishment" (the old order).

Therefore, my conclusion is, nothing will change unless it is for the betterment of the "establishment". A sad reality I think.
