Pattaya International Hospital Health Checkup, any feedback ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Have you done a health checkup at Pattaya international hospital ?

http://www.pih-inter.com/check-up-programs.html

Can you compare with Bangkok pattaya hospital ?

Any reason to use one hospital or another one ?

I guess that public hospitals do not do health checkup ? Or did they also started robbing people with overpriced checkup ?

Thank you.

The tests in most health check packages are very similar and are all mostly mechanical in nature, your results are not dependent on any doctor or hospital being better than another. For example, as long as blood tests are performed by an accredited lab the results will be the same regardless of which hospital you use. And the ranges that are used to determine if a particular result is good or not are very closely aligned  everywhere.

Where the differences between hospitals is very important is the interpretation of the results and that is dependent on the doctor rather than the hospital. The other area where the differences show up is in the cost of the medical which can range from 4k to 30k based on where you have it done.

For me, I would find the cheapest accredited lab I could find (or at least the most sensibly priced one), have the tests, get the results and take them to the best doctor I could find and ask him/her for their opinion. I just had a full blown medical in December, it cost me 4,300 in tests and 400 baht for my trusted doctor to evaluate them.

I've had the same GP or general practise doctor for years, you should ask around and see who other people can recommend, maybe even start a thread and ask that exact question.

As for labs: most hospital labs seem to be accredited, if in doubt just go there and ask them, the sign of accreditation will appear somewhere in the hospital probably on their letterhead. As a rule of thumb, the less flashy the hospital, the cheaper the tests but you might want to check a couple of places, other posters may also know of private labs in your area- university hospitals are usually a good bet. In case you are not aware, you can walk into most hospitals in Thailand and ask for blood tests only but you will need to understand and explain to them which ones you want, do you know? If you don't know the tests vary based on gender, age and risk factors, a starting point might be to look at the different tests offered as part of the health exams at various hospitals. Add to that the things that impact your lifestyle, if you drink alcohol, get a liver test, if you smoke, get a chest x-ray, if you're over 50 consider a cardiac stress test, and so on - it might be that the tests you get in the first instance will point to additional tests that you should have done.

I would think that they are much of a muchness in what one gets and there's probably not much difference in pricing. If investing in these annual health check packages, it is probably best to stick with one as then you have an auditable history on file where any real or significant trends can be readily seen by the doctor. Each hospital does give you the results and an analysis but I am not sure that the doctor at (for example) Samitivej would be too keen in comparing this years test results on screen with last years test results at BHP or the year before from PIH on paper.

The difference in pricing is massive, compare Bumrungrad's health exam to say Rajavej Hospital in Chiang Mai, 37,000 vs 6,700 baht, every other hospital in the country is somewhere inbetween!

Since the OP is asking specifically about PIH and this is the Pattaya forum, I was only comparing the Pattaya and Sri Racha private hospitals. The rates at BHP are around 12,000 baht for the 'optimum old farts'* medical but one can get the same medical at AEK Udon Thani for around 5000 baht.

Cheers, do you know how much a jobless Thai person has to pay for a health check in a public hospital ?

Thank you.
