BANGKOK: -- Police and the military raided a well known Huay Kwang massage parlor Tuesday and found evidence of underage sex.

The case falls into the category of human trafficking as the sex worker was under 18.

Around fifty police and military men headed by top brass policeman Surachet Hakpan raided the Tarathip massage parlor on Soi Pracha Uthit. They found 32 girls working in the sex trade, reports Manager Online.

Of these 13 were Thais, 16 Burmese, 1 Laotian and two from hill tribes. One of the Burmese girls was under the age of 18.

The foreign workers were working illegally and the premises was found to have a license that was out of date.

Surachet said: "Entertainment venues of this nature must not employ girls under the age of 18. This venue faces closure for doing so as the case falls into the bracket of human trafficking".

Police understand that the previous owner Hia Khiang died last year.

The business is now in the hands of his wife Jintana Mankornkaew who has been summonsed to appear before police.

The raid is the first in the area since several were conducted around the middle of last year resulting in the transfer of police from the local Huay Kwang station.

Nearby Nataree Massage remains shuttered and its high profile owners are still believed to be at large despite facing many serious charges some relating to human trafficking.

Give out severe sentences to people using their services, like long jail terms.

These people are as bad the people in the service.

Should it not face closure for being in the sex trade [if the headline is correct in it's assertion that this was going on at the "well know venue"}.

Thought that was illegal as well

Yes and stating the obvious of course

There are no Black and white laws in Thailand only Grey ones with Discretionary enforcement depending on certain factors

Would those factors be brown, rectangular and bulging with other bits of paper?

If you want to get rid of underage sex workers in Thai massage parlours:

Put it out among the foreign and Thai customers that if they report a place with underage sex workers, they will not be prosecuted or their name/photo published. This is as much to protect them from the mafia who run such places as to spare their blushes.

In fairness to what the police actually found, the parlour's license had lapsed (which probably means that they were not paying the unofficial tax which motivated their downfall) and there were foreigners working without documentation. Only one person was found to be underage. This is what allows the police to then charge the parlour with trafficking.

I would be grateful if someone can explain why someone caught underage in a massage parlour falls into the human trafficking category?

She could well be a 'volunteer' worker, not coerced in any way and just lying about her age to the employer.

While the 21 year old next to her was (hypothetically) taken by force from her village but because she isn't underage, doesn't come under the category?

Something I have never understood here; I had always thought that underage sex and trafficking were two separate offences, and unless there is proof to the contrary, should be processes individually.

And just for clarity, I am in no way condoning underage sex with the above questions.

So there you have it.....It is actually a recognized "Industry" with industry leaders, CEO's, Directors and Managers .....that you can maybe appeal to ? Do they come under the minimum wage constraints ?

I guess they did not heed the summons to drop in for a little chat. Wonder why not very sociable of them.

Oh! Everyone forgot to say that, so it's good you just said it. None of the massage owners knew it was wrong, so now nobody will employ kids in the sex trade anymore. Yeay!!! lol

It's a matter of police effort. Easy to prove trafficking of the under age girl as her ID card gives the evidence. Proving trafficking of older girls much more difficult and would involve active investigation, not a strong point here as the girls have no money to pay for justice.

It was, probably, known the license had transpired, hence the show.

The bonus was foreigners working there and lo and behold one girl working there not yet 18 (probably 17 years and 360 days old).

Good show!

This vile trade exists only because the authorities allow it ,

Sadly they don't give a damn, void of empathy.

I'll bet the under 18 girl has a better life selling herself in Thailand than she does back in the Myramar village she came from. Seems over half the workers were from outside of Thailand, something is being said there.

17 yo: no good!

18 yo: good!

Me thinks all sextrade is a sad thing.

The local place to be in my little town was raided some months ago and ALL girls were minors from yunnan and shan state. The guy is in jail now...

I get a bit of a laugh out out of some of the crazy statements made here by Farang who have

maybe not visited places like Suttisan. to enjoy.

But under age is something I think is a fair cop. I detest it

Definitely a recongnised industry and will remain so. Thai's generally seem to accept it. Too many people making a lot of money.

And too long a history (millenia) of culture and tradition that sees access to multiple sexual partners (up to the highest levels of society) as acceptable.

To the extent that one of the marks of ones "status" was the number of concubines "maintained".

An appreciation of the situation in the East:

"Sexual desire is regarded as merely another appetite, it does not have a moral dimension, any more than the consumption of a bowl of noodles has".

In the words of E M Forster Thailand is:

"another country, they do things differently there".

This is terrible news.

However the idea of bumping into hill tribe girls in a MP is intriguing…especially if they are wearing tribal gear.

Are the MPs using them as well? Gees.

Thailand culture say:-
From birth to 18 years old you are a kid.
From 18 years to 25 you are woman.
From 25 to 35 you are old woman.
From 35 you retire with noodle stand job.

This is Thai way.
