Australian man trapped in dam with just nose above water

SYDNEY: -- An Australian man has survived spending hours struggling to keep his nose above water after his excavator rolled into a dam.

Daniel Miller, 45, had been riding the machine at his remote property 300km (180 miles) north of Sydney.

When an embankment gave way, the farmer was pinned down by a bar on the three-tonne excavator.

His shouts were eventually heard 500m away by a neighbour, who sought help.

ironic, traped by a ROPS  (roll over protective structure),designed to save him incase of an accident just like this.

pity he wasnt wearing his seat belt tho , it would have saved him .

Saved him from what?

he was throwen out of the seat and traped under the ROPS  when it rolled.

if he was wearing the seat belt ,he would have stayed in the machine ,unclipped the seat belt and walked away.

thats what they are designed to do , just the same as in a car. gettit?

yes, one without the other is useless.  in a rollover ,a seat belt without a ROPS will kill you ,break your back or neck. a ROPS without a seat belt ,as you have just seen , can be just as deadly. in ozz they are required by law to fitted to all machinery,  from farm tractors up to D11s.

My mother always taught me if you cannot say something nice do not say anything at all.

Obviously  you were not brought up properly.

Also for your information you do not know more than me, as i have over 46 years experience on all types of excavators,

Wheeled tracked, still have my UK tickets for wheeled/ tracked excavators, dumpers, rollers, moxys, drag lines.

Had my own excavators for 29 years, so i think after that i know what i am talking about.

Much more experience than a damn grease monkey.
