BANGKOK: -- Police from eight Bangkok stations are undergoing intensive training in weapons' use and tactics in violent confrontations.

The metropolitan force hopes that the training will result in less collateral damage to the public when police arrest the bad guys, reported Thairath.

Some 360 officers from eight Bangkok stations are taking part in the 20 day training. They are from Chok Chai, Bang Chan, Bung Kum, Prawet, Lat Prao, Wang Thong Lang, Hua Mark and Udom Suk stations.

Officers are receiving training in close range and long range weapons' firing as well as tactics in battle situations where force needs to be used.

The force are often criticized by the public for the way they handle violent situations and those running the course hope to begin to address this issue.

Will come in handy when they have to take down a large temple and face off against hundreds of monks.

Or go on the offensive to get their lunch money back...

You would think that they would be constantly training. And this would not really be news worth reporting. It must really be a big deal that the police are doing any kind of training

It just shows how untrained they are..

I guess this training is a few hours only, that's all.

The monks holding all and sundry at bay have shown what a threat they can be to the ptb. This will no doubt be exploitec in the future so perhaps the police are training to fight the bad monks!

"Officers are receiving training in close range and long range weapons' firing as well as tactics in battle situations where force needs to be used.", battle situations ?,maybe they want the police to be militarized, like they are in the U.S.,with full

combat equipment, small tanks etc,so they can better oppress their populations.

Shooting at stationary paper targets is one thing. Shooting at moving live targets is another. "Halt! Do not move while I aim to Shoot You! Or I will tell my Mother!"

Will they be issued amulet piercing bullets?

Cannot. Too many people would lose face for buying a non working amulet.

Is this training necessary when RTP is assigned to an inactive station or traffic post?

Seems handling a tablet for internet surfing would be more appropriate.

At least the sides of a barn know they will be safe.

They tend to practice by firing into the air, usually when people are in the vicinity. I don't think the sides would be the concern.

Instead of them learning how to shoot guns why dont they train them to write tickets out for bad drivers. Now that something they should learn and think of the economy So many bad drivers here the books would be full every day and think of the money they would collect

what about teaching them about a little thing called a lunch box first and then get back to weapons training for roadside checkpoint salary increases.

Perhaps these guys are the next up and coming coup takeover guys.

Exciting...

The election must be getting near. A good job that they all wear slip on shoes otherwise they would have to go on a 20 day training course on how to do up their shoe laces.

The 'force' (aka known as The Circus) are often criticised by the public for more than just that.

Training:cheesy: It wont make a 'hapeth' of difference.Hostages will still stand the risk of getting shot in a kidnap situation. The cursory 10,000 bht will still be required before they start putting this 'training' into action. The Thai memory span, will ensure  that the training will be forgotten one week after completing it.

I suppose the cop cars will have the signs,  'trust us, we have been trained',on their

vehicles. And what with the cop's who have been shooting their spouses lately, will the training come in handy for that? The only kind of training they are fit for,is potty training.

The problem has been for many years is that the Police have to buy there own guns and ammunition , So any practice is costly, Which is why most cannot shoot straight,
