Police launch campaign to improve Pattaya’s sex-tainted image

Pattaya police have successfully cultivated bigger ticket businesses such as boiler rooms, condo selling frauds and other foreign mafia businesses that only target non-Thais, so they can now easily afford to let go of some of their smaller ticket businesses like beer bars touting elderly and unattractive prostitutes and patrons that create a hideous eyesore for family tourists.  Any crack down on big ticket sex tourism businesses, such as go-go bars can't be allowed to continue for very long though, as the economics of doing that don't make sense.  Police have to borrow money from loan sharks to pay key money for positions in Pattaya and then have to maintain instalments on the debt as well as pay rent to retain their positions.

Not pessimistic- realistic. Walking Street is involved in an ongoing fight regarding encroachment that the 'occupiers' are losing and it won't be long before they are expelled.

Nana Plaza and Cowboy are sitting on prime property that is worth much more than the owners will ever get from renting their land as the bar market cannot raise prices to pay the increased rent because they will have no business. The laand owners know this and they will take a developers offer and that will be the end of both sections. Walking Street is in a similar state. Money always talks - the bars walk.

This is definitely logical and will probably happen one day but so far the only red light strip that has disappeared was the short-lived Clinton Plaza in Bangkok. Patpong has been degraded by the night market but that is what seems to keep it going, as the owners of the private street can charge  rentals for pieces of tarmac. When the old boy that started it died about 20 years ago, there were rumours his daughters would sell out to developers but so far they haven't.  The small strip in Hua Hin was supposed to be relocated over 10 years ago, as it is offensively located opposite the Hua Hin temple, but it hasn't happened yet.

Perhaps there is a recognition that, despite the lady tourism minister's well meaning initiatives to promote mountain bike tourism by European over 50s in Prae and Lampang, Thailand's sex tourism is one of the few areas that it is truly competitive and ranks no. 1 in the world. Why kill the golden goose?

Sex capital of the world and death on the roads capital , I wonder what #3 will be.  Laziest police in the world , must be close.

Nope here it is . #3  Worst traffic jams in everywhere.   #4 must be the laziest Police force but still the best money can buy.

So, whats going to happen to all the lovely bar ladies? The beacons of light, that beckon warmth and company to us exhausted travelers on a stormy night? Will we no longer be able to induce them to spend a few hours in their arms? No longer taste the succour and enchantments of these delightful, oriental creatures?.

Oh,wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth. What's a poor boy to do when he's had a few, got his beer goggles on and has worked out what he's going to spend his last thousand baht on.

Are we no longer going to be lured, like the crew of the 'Argo' upon hearing the song of the fabled sirens, who softly say "yoo buy me dink mithda, na?"

Oh pattaya!, what is to become of you?Are we to lament your passing from the city of delights, back to the shit,  fishing, village, that you once were?Only to be remembered in the annals,of every sexual deviant, and others that came  to sink into your deep and addictive, arms?

Sorry but Nigeria beats Thailand hands down for:

  • worst Drivers (they don't drive, they move vehicles like their in a demolition derby)
  • worst Traffic Jams (average of 3 hours to get from airport to centre of Lagos and its 16 kms)
  • and laziest/most compliment Police (I frequently drive my vehicle past sleeping Armed Police Officers at checkpoints)

Those who are still interested in frequenting places where 'ladies' are willing to chat about various subjects in the LOS will always be available. They just won't be as noticeable and everywhere.  However, as Thailand becomes more industrialized; wages rise; and investment produces more jobs- the numbers of people who go into the business will decrease. It will follow the same pattern as the rest of the World. There was a time in the US when every small town had a place where one could get a drink; chat with the bar girls and head upstairs for added services.

Now they are taking the piss.

The Bouncers,    are ones of the groups in pattaya

That assault the  tourists as they seem to be above the law.

What a laugh. :stoner:

When you have those responsible for the mess  as the eyes and ears to report something then nothing is going to change.  It's like asking an alcoholic to report if he finds any alcohol

I live there and from what I have seen most tourists do not come for the sex. A lot come because it's a fun place and a good base to explore  other areas.

Even single men/women come here for things other than the sex. Loads of families these days also.

Of course there are sex tourists, I can think of three big areas in Bangkok that are no different but it's always Pattaya that gets bashed.

Pattaya isn't getting bashed, people are just discussing what it actually is and how it is seen around the world.  It is famous for its prostitutes, crime, being a safe haven for international criminals and misfits and dirty beaches.

The PM was upset about the stories on this by the foreign press, stating that the local press  should not reproduce these  stories as the foreign press can not be trusted to write the truth.

So the Pattaya policy are acting on the foreign lies!
