TAT recruits Buakaw, Mario to give tourism promotion an extra dash of star appeal
By THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- RENOWNED kick-boxer Buakaw Banchamek and young acting star Mario Maurer are taking to the global stage in promoting the Thai tourism sector this year.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hosting an “Amazing Fight” event, inviting tourists interested in Thai kick-boxing to join Muay Thai activities in the Kingdom.

With Muay Thai widely recognised internationally as a martial art, it has become increasingly well-known across Asia and Europe – and even in the US.

It is now one of the most popular sports, with Muay Thai boxing gyms and training-camp businesses flourishing all over the globe.

TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said yesterday that the agency had invited Buakaw, the most globally famous Thai fighter – known for his hard-hitting yet elegant fighting style that perfectly demonstrates the brutal beauty of Muay Thai – to make this national sport a major attraction for Thailand and the country’s tourism.

Just the kind of people to promote the Tourism in Thailand

People that are only famous in their own lunch break, as nobody else on the planet has any clue as to who these people are.

There is already enough physical violence in Thailand now without creating more by using the professionals to attract tourists.

In any case Thailand's own PM is a Muay Thai expert who could do their promo work for them.

Should appeal to the kind of tourists who go to Spain to enjoy the "brutal beauty" of bull fighting. Maybe we Brits should consider boosting visitor numbers by bringing back bear and badger baiting.

Hello DaveE13 I'm from E17 and we used to have a "world-class family greyhound race track" but the penny pushers shut it down. :(

Yes I knew it well.  They have only started building flats and houses there now
