BANGKOK: -- Following the news last month that a new festival, Golden Axe, would happen in Thailand on May 19-20 and be headlined by members of Wu-Tang Clan, a mysterious announcement was posted on the event page over the weekend that the festival has been “postponed” and that refunds will be given for purchased tickets.

There was no reason given, no new date announced and no promise that, when and if it is rescheduled, members of Wu-Tang will still be on the bill. We’ve reached out to the organizers for comment and, if they provide further info, we’ll update this story.

Many commenters on the page were extremely disappointed by the news, despite the announcement that those who had already bought tickets will get their refund as well as a free ticket to the promoter’s Nelly concert on May 17.

The over 70 year old, socks with sandals crowd isn't going to sell enough tickets for a WTC concert. People can say WTC sucks and it isn't music etc. but what was the last big name concert that took place in Bangkok?

Out of all the countries I have lived in Thais show the least amount of appreciation for foreign music. One sign of this is the many karaoke places around Thailand. Many have little or absolutely no foreign languages songs in their catalogues.

Contrast that to a place like Japan where nobody speaks all that much English but they absolutely love English music along with French etc. All karaoke places even in the countryside of Japan will have huge catalogues of foreign music.

Too bad it didn't come off but I never understood why whoever it is that manages WTC would have ever even considered Bangkok as a venue.
