The Environmental Education Centre (ECC) talks about the importance of preserving nature in “Fighting Extinction Day” taking place tomorrow (April 2) at Toyota Imax Theatre on the fourth floor of The Waterfall Quartier from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The EEC offers camps for children all over the world and aims to educate them by giving them new experiences and opportunities to interact with nature, creating an understanding for the methods and importance of natural conservation as well as the ecological relationship between different living creatures.

“Fighting Extinction Day” is part of the Fighting Extinction Project, which encourages children and youth to learn about Thailand’s endangered species. Speakers include Thai environmentalist Dr Surapol Duangkae, Dr Boripat Siriaunrat, head of the Thailand panda research project, Petch Manopawitr, deputy head of IUCN Southeast Asia Group, and Brendan Rogers, the first resident ambassador of Ireland to Thailand who will raise awareness about such endangered animals as the goral, kitti’s hog-nosed bat, dugong, leatherback sea turtle and whale shark.

 Find out more and make a reservation at (095) 965 1459 or (02) 753 5459.

Meanwhile down near Sam Roi Yot the Police chief goes on a hunting spree of endangered/protected animals then his name mysteriously vanishes form the charge sheet even though theres a photo of him at the shoot.

Thailand..............land of double standards

The ECC is trying hard and their heart is in the right place but i wouldn't bother, by the time these kids are grown up there wont be any 'nature' left, anything living in the sea around Thailand must be grateful for a quick death.

teaching them they dont have to eat or sell every living thing might help too, what I see in some of the markets is pretty bad, even protected species are fair game for some

Why not invite former model and wildlife activist Chatchaya “Yuyee” Ramos and her husband Frank to talk more on this subject. They have spent the past 15 years trying to stop the illegal wildlife trade in Thailand.

Bang on with that comment mate. Unfortunately, the powers that be feel that Yuyee is better behind bars in prison for possession of a very small amount of a class A drug. She may heve spent the last 15 years doing good, but now, sadly, she will be spending 15 years doing nothing. A tragic waste of a good human.

No way one can fight the extinction of the human species, that species is in self-destruction mode. Doubt any left by AD 3000....

Totally agree Thought the Thai brain had been extinct for years. Programmed to self serving me first. And being Thai I am always right in Thailand . Falange know nothing . Don't suppose this will last long .
