I don't know but I am sure glad we are not protected by it.

Seems now TV is not 'ssl safe'  So TV are saying!!!!

??

The site had been modified to "https" today. There were issues resulting in errors in some browsers and formats. That has now been resolved.

To answer the Op directly:

"SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral."

Can you explain in layman's terms why when I log on to TV it now tells me the site is not safe.

What exactly does that mean.

Signed as IT Luddite.??

SSL (secure sockets layer) is the old protocol and it is now TLS (transport layer security). This is the way your computer talks to the server to determine if the server is who it says it is and not 'someone' else. Once the connection is determined to be who each other thinks they are, the protocol then routes traffic through port 443 on your computer which is the port for encrypted http. (https) Once the https protocol is established your data is encrypted.

Everyone should install HTTPS Everywhere if they can:

In a way you are right.

9x% of content is publicly readable anyway.

But in the meantime the site has been changed to encrypted connection/traffic.
