I am very happy in Thailand thank you. To answer Rc2702 and your question, if I am in love with a person, then I`ll do anything and everything for that person, but I`m not a mug, I`ll give it my heart, body and soul but not under those kind of provisos as in the OP, when a partner become like a product with a price tag.

How do you know the guy did not make the offer and want it made public? How do you know he did not want to propel gay marriage in TH into a different stratosphere by making such an extravagant statement? I imagine a lot of pro equality patrons  & a lot of pink pound will come his way for his travel business. Not sure he is a mug CF. Restaurant named travel business named family happy both look very happy. I do not see any mugs.

Just a guess. but the guy on the left I believe is the former TAT tourism minister. No connections there then he was just guest of honour because they are blossom buddies and coincidentally Mr Chris owns a travel biz. Just a coincidence.

This is easy as usually one is a giver and the other is a taker. In this case I would say the old farang is the giver and the younger Thai man is the taker.

now "that is"  too much information:post-4641-1156693976:

Nice story, but the 1 mill dowry makes me feel uneasy.  Was it handed back after the wedding?  Good luck to them, the world needs more gays.

why? surely  it  just needs  more decent people

This really has got to be the most ill-informed comment I have ever read on this forum. Bar none!

I can never understand peoples dislike of gay anal sex when theyll happily  shove it up their Wifes arse, sorry  for the crudeness, its not  my cup of tea but strikes me as odd when folk take offence at man+man as  opposed to man+woman anal...................this threads going a bit shitty:sick:

Their wife won't happily let them do it. There in lies the problem. More than 70% of straight porn online has anal sex because peeps ain't getting it at home.

My b/f and I were married in a religious ceremony in his village here in Surin in 2013. Half the village turned up at the family house and the oldest man in the village who still had his marbles mumbled the prayers, assisted by my FIL and a couple of elderly female rellies who corrected the old man every time he made a mistake. We were blessed with holy water & I had already been taught how to wack my forehead 3 times on the ground to warn the ancestors that a new member of the family was coming aboard ... And a great time was had by all, with much laughter & merriment.

I was told that the fact that the government (a long way away in BKK, and there are many paddy fields) did not 'recognize' gay marriage was an irrelevance. None of THEIR (Khmer peasant) marriages were recognized by the government so why would you worry about that? The village recognized them and recognized my b/f & me as a couple, and that's what counted as far as they were concerned. And Buddhism says: Marriage is for 2 people who love each other. No nonsense about who does what in bed ...

why  limit it to "two" people, always found  that  oppressive

How do we know the world isn`t flat?

The emphasis here is not on the gay marriage, it is on the sin sot and gold that he gave. If not for the sin sot I doubt this story would have even made the headlines. Regardless whether this is a same sex marriage or not, it sends out all the wrong messages, especially this being a Farlang involved which gives an impression there are stupid, desperate Farlangs that financially the sky`s the limit when it comes to bagging a highly prized Thai partner. I can just imagine many Thais if read the story rushing to join dating sites offering themselves to the highest Farlang bidder as if in an auction. It`s like when Farlangs either tourists or expats, give way over the top tip in restaurants, massage parlours and for other services, showing off to impress the Thais and then later this practice becomes expected from all all us.  If the English guy was living or visiting Thailand on a budget, then I doubt the Thai man would had even given him the time of day.

This practice of huge offerings of money sets a precedent that regarding Farlangs in Thailand everything must come with a price tag as far as the Thais are concerned, remembering that the Thais tar us all with the same brush regardless of our circumstances and the OP marriage sort of legitimises that a dollar to a Farlang is nothing.

Beat me to it! Yes, I bet they were happy, particularly as dowry's are the generally the preserve of the parents of daughters!

Anyway good luck to the happy couple. Hope it all works out for them.
