Huge queues as gamblers and workers flee Thailand for the Songkran holidays!

SURIN: -- TNews reported there were huge queues in the heat of the early afternoon yesterday at the Kap Cherng border crossing in Surin.

Many in the crowds were Thai gamblers hoping to get lucky during the traditional new year celebrations at the two casinos on the Cambodian side of the border.

While there were also a large number of Cambodian workers leaving Thailand after being given most of the week off by their Thai employers.

And the sad thing is, the people that gamble the most are the ones that can least afford it.  I don't mind people going out now and then, have a night out of the house, etc.  But when the day or weekend is done, money is gone and they are right back in the same situation they were before, but with less money, and many, not necessarily most have taken on debt

And already making plans for their next misadventure. How does that song go? "When will they ever learn"

Funny man you do not mind, is it really your place to mind what other people do

When people hang out at the casino, watching for who has money, literally following you to the bathroom to try and sell you their watch or pawn it promising to pay it back, yes  do take note and do mind.  But I don't tell them what to do.  In the last year I went to the Barona Casino down near San Diego a lot.  The darn place comps everything, rooms, food, free cash etc.  I just did it to kill time.  I would sit at the machine, have a cup of coffee, watch the large screen TVs, press the button.  I hit 8 slot machine jackpots last year.  Got a pretty big tax bill from those W2s.   I think I ended up breaking even, but that's OK.   I did not play any table games except a little pai gow poker now and then.  Simple and brainless.  Slots were somewhat new to me, and one thing about them is you do have a lot of dead time where you can look around and see things because you don't have to focus or concentrate on anything.  I saw an amazing amount of the same people there every time I went.  I mean there was never a time when the same people were not there, so they must be going there literally every day.  Again, that is their choice.  But these are also the people that will not be paying much in taxes, are probably not medically insured and can't pay for any services that you may end up paying.  So gamble away.
