BANGKOK, 2 May 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of Transport will seek 300 billion baht from the Cabinet to expedite the development of the country’s railway system and basic infrastructure.

Transport Minister Akom Termpittayapaisit revealed that his ministry will seek a Cabinet endorsement for a 345-billion-baht budget to bolster transportation connectivity in the country.

The money will be spent according to the 20-year strategic plan where the focus is on the development of railway system and the construction of basic infrastructure. The budget request for the year 2018 will be 8% higher than the year before.

Akom further stated that the development of the tourism industry was also taken into consideration when calculating the budget to accommodate higher domestic air travels. A development plan for 28 airports under the management of the Department of Airports will be carried out among other projects.

The money sought after by the ministry will also be spent on road safety, public facilities, road signs, and landscape improvement.

Not initiate but expedite.

So extra funding to accelerate the construction schedule of approved projects. I wonder if Prayut wants to showcase some of the projects before elections in 2019 to help loyalist get elected?
