SONGKHLA: -- Two six year old twins with Thai and Italian parents married in a ceremony in Songkhla in the south of Thailand yesterday.

Twins often "marry" according to local beliefs that the practice will bring good luck to both them and the family ensuring they will always be together and have a long and happy life, reported Sanook.

Tying the knot yesterday were groom Peno Vincent Curotto, the younger of the two six year olds, and his sister the bride Cara Francis.

Parents Joseph Curotto from Italy and mother Pornsri Wijitsopha joined many guests at the wedding that had all the trappings of a real marriage complete with dowry.

Little Cara had to attend the ceremony in a cast after injuring her left arm in an accident three days before, but she did the best she could, reported Sanook.

I know two kids with 'good luck' names. One is called 'Lotto' and the other is called 'Mee tang'. That's 'lottery' and 'have money' in English.

Apprently this isn't scientific but a belief. If you name your kid something, that something will happen in your life. It doesn't cost anything and requires no thinking. I don't know why more people aren't doing it.

I'm not sure that explains my students from last year: "Coke", 'Wine", and "Beer". Three boys who sat next to a girl named "Nam Keng" (Ic e). All we needed were a few mixers and we can get the party started 1

Surely this ridiculous farce serves purely to promote incest.

You just don't understand Thainess. Everyone is fair game, even when they say "no." But that just means they get raped until they fall in love with their attacker, usually after being kidnapped and taken to a remote island.

I saw it on TV, it must be true.

I will assume that you are adults and understand that.

No I do not understand or want to, as at this age kids need to be kids and have a kids life before they grow up and have to suffer life as it hits you.

Marriage means something in most countries but here not a chance by the looks of things. I am sure under Italian law this is illegal, so best not go there.

But then I see the word dowry, so now I understand.

I am confused.  This is about twins, but then the article refers to the girl as older.  Just a few minutes older?

She's a cougar and really has herself a toyboy!

Simply sickening! The parents should be thrown into prison!

What a demented world I live in. As a father, I would never even consider such a pathetic act!

Yet again, it seems to me, the purpose of this shameful act is simply to do with greed and money at the expense of the children.

Married for good luck! Get real you idiotic <deleted>! Demented low life pieces of sxxt!

I consider this as bordering on:
Child slavery.
Human trafficking.
An act perpetrated by pedophiles!

They are kids! They should not be forced into adulthood before they have experienced the joys of growing up!

Disgusting! [emoji35]

And the authorities let this happen?! Unreal!

Respect must be earned, be it customs or people. This stuff is just silly.

Yeah...ahm...I don't care!

This is the 21st century and there are many traditions, all over the world, that are archaic and do no good to anyone...and should be stopped!

"Marrying" two children for the sake of (financial) "good luck", is one of them!

The problem is with you, sir.
Why do you bring paedophilia into the discussion?
This is a rather ancient practice:

"In Thai culture, it is believed that opposite-sex twins were lovers in the past life who were prevented from being together. Being born together as twins means their prayers were delivered by God.

Parents must marry their twins for blessing to send a message to God that they’re well and in love; otherwise the cultural belief is that the children might die very young, News Connect reported."

Greed or money? The money, or sinsot, is supplied by the parents. How are they profiting by paying it to their own children?

If you cared to investigate you would have learned that this is a purely ceremonial affair designed to ease a Karmic difficulty. There is no part played by authorities, and hopefully in time they will each meet and marry for real a suitable partner.

I really despair, sometimes, over how little many expats know about their host country's culture and beliefs, expecting the people to conform to their Western ideals without making even a cursory Google effort to find out what is going on.

A really good feature of TV is that if you do NOT know something, you can ask.

Not about financial "good luck".

Do you also think, that genital mutilation is something that should be "understood" as a nice tradition?

Again: 21st century!

Sorry, bud. Apples and oranges.
The "play" ceremonial marriage has nothing in common with physical torture and mutilation.
That is a false equivalency.

Indeed but one doesn't have to leave logic at home when one moves there. I respect many of their customs until it involves kids in such a fashion. This is about potential monetary gain through the eyes of the mother and her family for them first and foremost. Consideration of the kids is secondary or non-existent... ripe for future mental health conditioning. The Italian father must be a right winner. What does he tell his friends and family back home I wonder.

Good lord, calm down.

It's not a real marriage. It's a good luck ceremony for twins.

It is called a marriage but it isnt a real marriage.

Happens with dead people, animals and occasionally inanimate object here too.

These kids have loving parents and will both do just fine.
