webfact
TAT eyes attracting Chinese couples BANGKOK, 8 May 2017 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand will develop a new tourism campaign aimed at attracting Chinese couples to wed in Thailand. Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul is set to speak with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Asia and South Pacific) Srisuda Wanapinyosak regarding the new tourism strategy. At least 30% more young adult couples who lead modern lifestyles in China will walk down the aisle in the next few years, according to the minister. Since their spending power increases each year, both the TAT and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports want to market Thailand as their potential wedding destination. A relevant agency has been instructed to launch a survey among famous jewelry shops in China, where couples purchase their wedding rings, to see if Thailand can establish partnerships with them. -- nnt 2017-05-

ratcatcher
"TAT eyes attracting Chinese couples" This was what caused me to click on the thread. There was no reference to "luring enticing or seducing " the Chinese engaged couples. They must have spent some considerable time, mulling, contemplating and pondering this idea. It's good to see these two powerful females agreeing on such a good idea. I hope the Big Boys approve. Kobkarn Srisuda

MarkusAUST
Why would Chinese couples want to get married here? The cost of bringing the guests would be exorbitant.
klauskunkel
Khun Kobkarn pondering a list of potential wedding venues: with that twinkle in her eyes she must be thinking about the potential headlines as well: "White Temple owner/artist mad about wedding turds" "Drugged Tiger defrocks monk by eating his robe during Chinese wedding" "Wat Dhammakaya lifts off, abducting Chinese couple"
Prbkk
The biggest markets for tourist weddings are those countries in which the cost of a wedding has reached ludicrous levels. China is not one of them, added to which the very strong family bonds makes the whole idea of an out of country wedding far less likely. Honeymoons, sure. Sex tourism also has great potential. Stargeezr
Yes, Thailand, keep focusing on trying to get people from a nearby country to come to Thailand. Why not focus on countries that are richer than Thailand where the population has to travel much further to visit Thailand. Why not make the visas modern in Thailand, such as no visa needed for 90 days or less, and 6 month to 1 year visa made easy to obtain for people who want to live part time in Thailand. I guess this would not work in getting more people from lets say northern Europe, or Britain, or heaven forbid North or South America. No No Thailand TAT, just keep on your focus for the near by neighbours, Yeah that is so much easier for easy results. Geezer
newnative
I'm already seeing lots of young Chinese couples in central and north Pattaya. It would make more sense to increase the promotion of Thailand as a honeymoon destination.
