PARIS (Reuters) - French President-elect Emmanuel Macron told his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in a telephone call on Monday that he would defend a climate change deal agreed in Paris in 2015, his spokeswoman said.

"He is going to protect the climate change agreement, and he is going to make sure he will be vigilant in protecting the French people," Laurence Haim told CNN.

She said the two had also discussed during their 10-minute conversation issues including the fight against terrorism, transatlantic relations and the economy.

Climate change "is a very important and sensitive issue for the French. He told him (Trump) that he will protect what was made in Paris."

The climate agreement was not a good agreement, Trump knows it as well.  I keep seeing people who say that humans are all to blame for

the impending climate change, and in Canada, which by the way is way less polluting than the USA there are 3 provinces that are charging all their

population a carbon tax becase we are so bad and need to be charged for doing things like driving our vehicles and using natural gas to heat our

homes.  Meanwhile most countries like Russia, China, the ME, Arica, and South America are polluting and certainly not charging their people a dime

for polluting their part of the earth. One thing that does pollute the earth is volcanoes which all also put carbon and other gases into the air and this

does seem to escape the politicians, and scientists that everyone listens to for their supposed expertice in Climate Change

Geezer

Pfft, climate change will happen anyway as it's a natural cycle of the earth.

Of course, lying scumbag politicians such as Al Gore will say anything for a buck :passifier:

That's not to say we wouldn't enjoy better health by implementing cleaner energy systems worldwide...

But again, we have to make our health more important than money...

There's enough Geo-thermal energy beneath our feet to provide clean power for all...

However, tapping into it and channeling it requires cooperation and, sadly, money :welcomeani:

It seems you fail to acknowledge the scientific reality that the climate change we're talking about here is because of HUMAN ACTIVITY.

Al Gore could be a scumbag or a saint, doesn't change that reality.

The great climate silence: we are on the edge of the abyss but we ignore it

Most citizens ignore or downplay the warnings; many of our intellectuals indulge in wishful thinking; and some influential voices declare that nothing at all is happening, that the scientists are deceiving us. Yet the evidence tells us that so powerful have humans become that we have entered this new and dangerous geological epoch, which is defined by the fact that the human imprint on the global environment has now become so large and active that it rivals some of the great forces of nature in its impact on the functioning of the Earth system.

The scientists ARE correct. I've seen the data. The conclusions are irrefutable. Change deniers just show their ignorance of science and statistics generally.

The American should invest in more nuclear power - probably Toshiba / Westinghouse PWRs. Is GE still manufacturing reactors - Ill have to check.

Surprise Trump has really got into smaller, bullet proof, USA manufactured kit.....

I see GE are in bed with Hitachi making ABWRs. Good !

(British kit is still the best IMHO)

Is Trump still supporting coal? Unbelievable! Maybe he would like coal fired cars?

The earth has been around for 4.5 Billion years-ish - how long has science been around?

The science you refer to is based upon records, however, no one is qualified to to actually know because humans have only existed for an instant in the big picture.

So just relax and go about your day without worrying, everything is fine. Just clean up the air, water and food and we'll all live longer.

The earth will be fine regardless of and in spite of anything humans do...

In other words, you have no rational rebuttal.

Don't like the bloke and his sheepish EU leanings, but good for him. Trump is so wrong on this. Anyone reeling out the tired old 'it's all natural' (and of course it is a 'natural' process when it's not being instigated by humans) really need to get their ignorant heads out of the sand.

First, Merkel threatens the British.  Now, this pipsqueak threatens the United States. We'll see how long it takes for the pip to squeak.

Well he may be a pipsqueak but he is voicing the opinion of millions of others whereas Trump speaks for the delusional few.
