Is it illegal to play online poker if the server is in another country?

Is it legal to make a bet in Thailand that does not involve money? Is poker with chips for fun? Or if so and so wins you have to wear a dress to the pub tonight?

If they want to bet online why show up in a place full of people ? Because they do not have access to legal betting  accounts in China probably . These days you can sit anywhere to gamble , as long as you bring a laptop.

Research the Bridge players down in Pattaya/Jomtien that were arrested.  Had decks of cards!  Technically against the law.  Play multi deck canasta.  Heck playing cribbage and pegging for points.  We played a lot of cards as kids but never a penny involved.  The issue of online poker from Thailand has even come up in the mainstream media.  Some of the young poker players you see on TV in some of the big tournaments and cash games tried living in Canada, Thailand etc. and playing online since it was basically outlawed, financially anyway in the USA.  You won't get a clear reading on it.  Probably is risky.  Even if it was OK to do online, the question would be are you making a living doing it?  Now you are crossing the grey line from digital nomad, or someone just managing their investment portfolio, to one that is working in Thailand.
