Registering a UK marriage in Thailand - Idiot's guide needed

Featured Replies

OK, been married nearly 13 years most of which has been in Thailand but we got hitched in the UK.

Waaaay back I had a Non-O but my (then) employer decided that I had to have a B and extend on the basis of work, being a noob then I went along with it.

Fast forwards to 2017, my (now) employer has suggested that we "get married in Thailand" as he can (apparently) save on Thai employees and registered capital.

Since it's them who want me to do it of course I asked them to arrange the paperwork, nothing has been forthcoming (am I surprised?).

So, is there a step-by-step idiot's guide, preferable involving an agency (recommendations?) to do the running around?

Why not just get a legalised, certified translation of your UK marriage certificate? I'm on a work extension, married in the UK.

Weeelll, my employer thinks I need to be "married in Thailand" and be using a marriage extension before he can cut the employee / capital requirements.

Correct or not he pays me rather well, I'm not going to question him. I'll just go with the flow and get on with my job.

Strange. Thai Immigration will certainly accept a legalised/certified UK marriage certificate.

To get a marriage extension? Are you quite sure of that? Which office are you using?

EDIT I understand that you actually have to register with the local ampur and get a Thai marriage certificate.

Of course this confusion is why I'm here asking the questions.

I may well be confused.  I just assumed that any legal marriage, with a marriage certificate legalised and translated into Thai, should be enough.  After all you cannot legally get married twice.  I agree it's confusing.  Hopefully someone more qualified will be able to help.

As I see it if you are already married then how can you get an affirmation to marry letter from your Embassy and the Amphur will not marry you without it.

Just face it, you are married, so stop listening to your boss who obviously does not know the system and go and register your marriage at the Amphur yourself....lol
