This will not be news to those who are already wise or have experienced the joys of Online Dating when it comes to Thailand (and no doubt beyond), but it did stir some interest after hearing one Thai woman's experience.  Now I appreciate that some readers may have had very negative experiences with women, even with some here in this lovely country.  However, after spending many years in Asia, I am able to say with certainty that there are a lot of genuine ladies among the many who are not.  The lady I spoke to paid an Introduction Agency Baht50,000 (about AUD $2,000) to represent her and hopefully find her a genuine Partner.   It transpired that the Agency failed to pass on numerous photos forwarded by the prospective partners to the lady in question.  They also withheld large amounts of correspondence forwarded by them.  It appears that none of the enquirers were aware that they were dealing with an Agent and speaking to various people employed by them to manage the clients account.  The lady in question was, however, shown information from clients that mentioned Bank Accounts, personal details and other information that would be useful to the more unscrupulous individual.  Fortunately she became suspicious and refused to disclose any personal details regarding finance, property, etc.  Being an old retired Federal Police Officer with years of policing in Asia and at home I feel that this knowledge should be shared with a word of caution.  Be wary of online dating sites, they can be the hub for those seeking to exploit others by mining information and charging exorbitant fees in the process.  The Lady in question is well educated with her own means, fortunately she was savvy enough to wake up, not before she payed an excessive amount of money for a zero outcome which has understandably left her quite distressed.  Remember, when you part with money you agree to hand it over, the adage "buyer beware" is a truism in this part of the world.  For those seeking to come her or find love on the Internet, good luck but be careful.  Does this resonate with anyone out there?

This thread really isn't about online dating but high-priced "introduction agencies."  I didn't think they still existed with all the other online means to meet a partner at a fraction of the cost.  I mean, who in their right mind would pay 50,000 bt for such a service?  Sorry, but that's just nutty.

As others have said, the OP is warning about someone paying an introduction agency, online dating sites are not the same thing.

Online dating sites can be a great, safe and cheap way of meeting people, a small one off joining fee or subscription fee, filter who you wish to talk to, talk directly with someone etc.

The OP and title are a little misleading as the OP is talking about a bogus introduction agency, not online dating.

Some get it and some don't.  The post was not for the informed or those with experience as I stated in the introduction.  Great sarcasm though, love it!!!

Oh, to answer the question about policing in Asia.  It's not my job to educate or inform the ignorant but your country may well have police officers working here.  In fact you might have had a beer with one and perhaps been quietly noted.  I started policing here in the Army in 1968 and moved on after discharging from the Services.  I won't question your credentials as your post tends to speak for itself.
