A Thai woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing $6,000 worth of chips from a casino in Banteay Meanchey province. Nathanicha Vaingnong, 39, last week took the chips from the Holiday Palace Casino in Poipet city, on the Cambodian-Thai border.

Sok Chandeth, deputy chief of the provincial minor crimes unit, said the woman was yesterday charged with theft by Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court.  She faces between six months and three years in prison if convicted.

He said Ms Nathanicha was known to cross the border and gamble in Poipet almost every day. “She stole a large haul of chips and was detained by casino staff before being handed over to police,” he said, adding that she was being held at the provincial prison awaiting trial.
