Hi I am looking for some feedback from anyone in Chiang Mai who obtains their retirement extension and meets the financial requirements using a statutory declaration from the Australian Consulate when they visit Chiang Mai

In past years I have seasoned the money in a bank account for three months and obtained a letter from the Bangkok Bank

Last year I had a number of problems which I will not detail here due to the bank changing its system

I have decided to try the above approach and note that the Australian Consulate now require proof of  receiving the funds which is not a problem but appears to defeat the object of a statutory declaration

Is there a particular format required by the Chiang. Mai Immigration office as the form provided by the Australian Consulate is blank ( unlike the American Embassy who provide a detailed pro forma)

Can it be hand written, should the amount be shown in Aus Dollars or Thai Baht etc etc

any feedback would be appreciated

Thanks

Can't speak for the Consulate but the Australian Embassy don't require proof of any income.

Not sure what you mean by blank.

1. Name, address and occupation (retired).

2. Make the declaration.  (Hand written)

Receive a monthly pension of xx AUD from xx totalling an annual income of xx AUD. and/or

Receive a monthly income of xx AUD from xx totalling an annual income of xx AUD.

Don't sign until they ask you to

Immigration do the conversion calculation from AUD to BHT using Bangkok Bank TT rate.

The Australian embassy dropped the requirement to show back up proof of your income after a short time of requiring it.

Thanks Joe in early March the requirement was announced on this site, I contacted Ron Elliot the Honorary Consul in Chiang Mai who forwarded my email to Bangkok

I received a reply confirming that they required proof of the income such as Thai bank account or if from a pension fund a statement from the fund

It appeared to defeat the object of signing a statutory declaration as you might as well produce the above information to the Immigration Department and save the fee

Obviously not well thought out

Thanks again

The embassy had it on their website for a short period of time but have since taken it down.

There have been recent reports by members stating it was not required when they did the declaration.

Thanks for the information the blank form I was referring to was the statutory declaration

I have just seen a post from Ubonjoe who has confirmed that the Australian Embassy dropped the requirement to show proof of income shortly after introducing the requirement ( I read about it back in March)

It did seem to defeat the object of signing a stat dec as you might as well produce the proof of Income to the Immigration Dept and save the fee

Indeed, I can confirm that my Aussie friend only yesterday (Wednesday) made his declaration at the Australian Embassy without any proof of funds required.

Thanks for the update I sent an email to Ron Elliot the Honorary Consul in Chiang Mail to check when the next outreach visit was occurring and which happens to be today then August

He also confirmed that no proof required

Interesting as to why the requirement introduced then withdrawn maybe not thought through properly
