BANGKOK, 14 June 2017 (NNT) – In enacting the government’s 20 year national development strategy, the Ministry of Commerce has joined with the Ministry of Interior to allow people contacting it to only need their identification cards.

The Ministry of Commerce has signed 2 agreements with the Department of Local Administration under the Ministry of Interior.

The first is for the economic office to be able to access the department’s civic database through electronic channels and the second is for it to be able to utilize programs that extrapolate data from citizen identification cards.

Both agreements will allow the Ministry of Commerce to streamline its services, allowing citizens to access the ministry without the need to submit a copy of their ID and cutting down processing times.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Commerce Pongphan Jiarawiriyaphan explained that officials from her ministry will be receiving training from the Department of Local Administration with an aim to put the 2 agreements into effect on July 15. She let on the hope that the improved service would further enhance Thailand’s Ease of Doing Business status.
