National parks department disagrees with paying more to local governments

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation has made clear that it will not give any more revenue from its entrance fees collected from tourists to its national parks to local governments beyond the 5 percent rate already given.

 

The department spokesman Mr Sompote Maneerat said Thursday that the department disagreed with the decision on November 23 last year of the decentralization committee to increase the share of ticket fares given to local governments from 5 percent to 40 percent.

 

The committee’s decision was referred to the Interior Ministry so that a ministerial regulation will have to be amended to accommodate the increased share of revenue for local governments.

Can't hardly blame them. Those involved in the administration of local government are reputed to have deep and hungry pockets.

Then again their 5% might be drying up because it is being syphoned off before it gets to them.

Seems the envelope size between the two groups is getting disproportional and some re-adjustment is needed.

What? Trying to create mayhem from a scramble for seats in local governments?

Surely after the exposure given to dual pricing, farangs no longer visit these places do they?

Pay more money, sounds ok to me especially with the billions of ฿ collected from tourists so happy to part with the foreigner chage.

1.7 billion baht for allowing farangs to stand on a beach, and that is just what is fessed up.  We weren't even issued with a ticket and, that sum doesn't include what ever is going on with the boat operators.   

they obviously are not getting enough to run the parks properly. they are covered in trash and in many cases are unsafe. they need to be keeping more from the entry fees for maintenance, not less.

"We ain't lowing the price, and we ain't sharing!"  Muuuhhaaaahha.

They sure do.  I even visited. There is plenty to see without dealing with the NP bureaucracy.  Hire a boat and simply don't stop at the NP island.  Easy!
