madmitch Posted June 30, 2017 Share Posted June 30, 2017 So many of the buses are simply not suitable for use in Phuket. How often are you stuck behind a bus struggling to get up a hill? Most have the turning circle of a jumbo jet, causing hold-ups when they either turn right or, of course, being Thailand, make a u-turn. Others have smoke belching out of the back. And of course, there's the brake issue, whether or not this is the real reason for an accident or not. They should be maintained tested regularly and taken off the road if they fail. I suspect what happens is at the top of the hill some drivers throws the gears into neutral to "save" fuel and "rest" the engine on the downhill run and then ride the brakes hard all the way down until brake fade occurs and the bus crashes. Thus brake failure did officially occur. And the driver, if he still alive, is left scratching his stupid head. I am sure that practice does not occur in Switzerland or most other countries.
