yup the sister (7 yrs younger) being one of those city banker types can be as hard as nails however she has a heart as big as anything when needed. She has demonstrated  the softer side many times in the past  but none so much as now. She has also demonstrated her no nonsense, kick up the butt common sense and advice none so much as right now..

 

Yesterday whilst driving up to .Mothers ( big surprise for Mum) and then on up to my aunt, whose husband is fading away, little sis and I had a very practical and down to earth talk. Basic questions which perhaps we should keep in our armoury for occasions such as this;

 

If it were me ( sister) being treated like you (by husband), what would your advice be?

 

Is this how you want to spend the rest of your life?

 

I know she is sending messages promising to change etc  but do you think she will or can?

 

What effect do you think this abuse that you are receiving is having on a) Your persona  and  Your loved ones; Mother, sisters, children etc. .

 

Are you really happy where where you are right now?

 

Do you feel physically safe out there with her?

 

Well she certainly knows which ones to ask and  then caps it off with "Only you can decide the way forward but whatever you decide you know we are all here for as long as you need us. Take as much time as you like to get your head right, but please get it right"

 

We all know the answers, and I know in my heart of hearts what is right. 

 

Whomever coined the phrase "The onlooker sees most of the game" was a very gifted individual. 

 

and so , once more sitting in the garden listening to the birds singing and the barely audible distant roar of planes  at Heathrow and the M25, peace has descended giving me the chance to sort out my head.

I think you would have liked the band last night, as the band was brought from Pattaya by a member of the Mad Dogs motorcycle club I was expecting a loud rock band (I'm a big fan of rock) but they were almost the opposite. Extremely good musicians at a volume you could still converse over and a wide pallet of music but aimed at our generation. I wouldn't normally advertise but if you live in the Pattaya area and you see them advertised they are well worth watching, they are Elements and they have a facebook page if anyone is interested.

Now that sounds great. Thinking back I've never been to a concert that I was comfortable with. I've often come out with my head thumping and ears ringing.

Hi SR, thanks for the info,actually have six guitars stashed at my sisters. They cam out of a four year hibernationand every single one was still perfectly in tune. Two of them I picked up in France years ago and they have been customised with Seymour Duncan pickups and (as yet) undefined bridges and switches. Having knocked out a few barely recognisable tunes this morning they are a delight to play, more so than the US strat and jazz bass . 

 

Not clear on future plans but but should I come back to LoS then will certainly spend some time in your area and will live to experience some good live music.

 

hope the aches and pains are receding.

Good news, you have got just the right person in your sister to help in these troubled times. Unconditional support and some straight talking.

The ambiance of the place where you are will no doubt help too. I hope there is a little traditional pub with Fullers or Young's to help with the thinking process in the vicinity too when your sister is busy in the city.

 

Music scene in Thailand is pretty good. I don't recall where you were living but there are some good bands and singer/guitarists around as Owl says. Good you have some banjos to play with in the meantime, but music bars in Thailand is something to consider in the future (no disrespect to SR).

 

I hope we hear from Ody soon, although I feel confidant he will be fine and just looking for an internet connection.

If you think the Thai music scene is good try the Philippines. Best singers and musicians in Asia. In fact the best hotels have Filipino bands.

Did anyone hear or do they know if Ody made it to the airport? There is plenty of free wifi in clubs, fast food outlets, Sydney airport etc here in oz and if he were here he could easily give us an update? Fingers crossed he is okay.

I live at Belmont NSW not far from Ody's  possible destination. I like many others  hope he is home safe .

I am going through separation with Thai wife who is using the domestic violence avenue, with false accusations, to get permanent visa. 

Stay strong. The heart hurts but time will heal.

Some 15 years ago a friend of mine was recruiting Thai ladies to work in the north west of Eng' as labour on organic vegetable farms.

 

One chap, who had married one of the Thai girls, had a similar prob as yourself with the "domestic violence avenue, with false accusations". She was a gambler, had run up debts and was forever phoning him and threatening him. My pal advised him to record everything she said. In one such phone call she really put her foot in it saying she would say this and say that when it got to court. I don't know the end details except that it worked out OK for him.

 

I just want to offer my hope to you. Try to gather evidence of false accusations. She is not likely to lie in emails or txts but could drop her guard on the phone. Once they think they are on top their egos take over. Save everything!!

Hi TW and welcome, glad that by sharing our experiences, warts and all, that we have in some small way helped ease both your pain and your journey through those troubled waters. 

 

I was also accused, the day I came out of hospital in the uk for a heart issue, of beating the wife ( completely unfounded and wrong)  which ended up with plod traipsing around my house and finally me having to cough up around £80 for her fine for scurrilous use of the emergency services. 

 

Amazing that those on whom we lay  so lay so much love affection and emotion are capable of plumbing such depths of hatred in order to try and hurt us. Why do they do it?

 

Hate leaving the one that I have spent 17 years with alone and financially much worse off than she was with me and the very comfortable life I gave her and still feel very sad and guilty about it. However I could only do that if I was safe happy and motivated to do so.

 

their ability to self destruct is beyond my capability to comprehend. Only when the cold harsh truth not of what they have done but what the effects are going to be,hits is there any sign of remorse. 

 

Not even sure remorse is shown, more like just a pathetic pleading for money due to the realisation of their very recent change in circumstances and barely credible claims of eternal love, inability to sleep etc etc etc. 

 

My my heart is starting to harden as a glimmer of common sense starts to show through.

I used to go and see Motorhead & Saxon in the late 70's early 80's and they were both competing to be the loudest band in the world. all you could hear was shshshshshshshshs for 3 days after their concerts.

I'm a huge fan of SD pickups, put a lil 59 in the bridge of a tele and it was sweet but as I mentioned before I only have a Jap Jackson here now with SD design pickups but still good. It wasn't cheap but when you have an expensive guitar, told you before tele, les paul, but my Jackson Phil Collen was awesome and so it should be at 3.5K UK. maybe when I go back to the UK will buy a James Burton Tele and reclaim vat then declare it here but the temperature and humidity kills strings, I keep the packets in the fridge. It comes across you are more chilled now, look after yourself TDL and all the rest of you old reprobates ........

Yes, very true, some of the best bands are Filipino.

Fact is they speak English better than Thais for a start so the singers know what they are singing and how to pronounce things. The musicians are also usually more proficient too, as you say.

I don't think you will get many Filipino bands playing in Nackon Nowhere though.

Yes, good to hear the Great Escape seems to have been successful.

Substitute 5 years for 17 years and I could have written that.

 

I'm sure that my problems with her were caused by her sister because I would not give her ( sister ) any money, and since she moved away from her sister post divorce the hatred has gone, but the hurt lives on for both of us. I did visit her, and I felt sorry for her as her standard of living has dropped and she has a poor future in store ( unless she can find another to bankroll her lifestyle ), but I won't be helping her. Beds, made etc.

It is not until the ATM shuts off and the penny drops a few weeks later you are not coming back, and suddenly, the life they once knew has turned to shit, do they realise something is wrong. The claims of eternal love, 'I cannot sleep tee rak', the village gossip starts doing the rounds, and they realise they suddenly have nothing without Mr Farang, does a little remorse filter in (and in most cases, it was not asking for more money).  As I found out, the moment I went back to her (I did this once) even just for a few days, NOTHING had changed, so I left.

 

They just cannot change.

 

Only yesterday I had been severely sick. I got some very bad news from the Doctor, and I did not take it well. I went for a walk for several hours digesting the news, and my wife and friends got very worried. One of my best friends went around to my ex-girlfriends place seeing if I had passed that way. Only one month ago she had contacted me asking me for a significant amount of money, and I said no. She then told others she blamed my wife for telling her no.

 

My friend then says that he saw a new 'upgraded' farang had already moved in with her and that she was just soaping me for money.

 

When it is a matter of survival, these people will do anything, and I need to remember that now always.

So you have some Persian cats to keep you company, well better than those bad tempered Siamese pussies. And no yapping little mutts either.

You have the environment to get your head straight and it sounds like you are starting to come to terms with what lies ahead.

Remember just one thing, when you make up your mind stick to the decision, as heart wrenching and difficult for all concerned it might be.

I've been busy today with a house move but during a quiet moment I did find myself wondering if Ody is having the same peaceful transition as DL ?
I certainly hope he is sitting on the porch of some friend or family sipping a chilled glass of wine.

Good to hear you are coping well over there mate. Just enjoy every moment of peace and try to work through the guilt. We all know they will never change, but maybe this last time.  

Just think of the really bad times when that happens and hopefully it eases the guilt and sanity prevails.

I think it fair to say that I am not alone in hoping that Ody is finding the peace that eluded him over there in LoS and that he is somehow regaining his health.
