A suspected insurgent, wanted under five arrest warrants on terrorism and many other charges, was killed in a clash with a government force in Yala province on Friday night, according to Col Yuthanam Phetmuang, deputy spokesman of the Region 4 Internal Security Operations Command.

Col Yuthanam said this at a news conference at the Isoc Region 4 forward headquarters at Sirindhorn military camp in Pattani’s Yarang district on Saturday (July 1).

He identified the suspect as Lukman Mading, 29, who was wanted under five warrants issued between 2013-2016 for terrorism, arson that caused deaths, robberies, possession of illegal weapons and explosives and attempted murder.

A combined police, military and ranger force laid siege to house No 57 at Ban Piyae in tambon Buemang of Yala’s Raman disrtrict on Friday afternoon on information that Lukman, the suspect, had been hiding in the house.

While the authorities were approaching the house for a search, Lukman allegedly threw a hand grenade and opened fire at them. An exchange of fire followed.
