Five arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 210,000 meth pills to deep South

By The Nation

Police have arrested five suspects in Bangkok for allegedly attempting to smuggle 210,000 methamphetamine pills into the deep South on a bus destined for Narathiwat.

The uspects were identified as Bakoli Dongmuser, 38, Pornprapha Lisen, 36, Sombat Sri-ngam, 34, Phuwanart Muangmun, 39, and Pairin Losen, 43.

The arrest was announced on Monday at a press conference at the Metropolitan Police Bureau by Pol General Chalermkiart Sriworakhan, the deputy police commissioner who heads the anti-narcotics centre of the Royal Thai Police.

Chalermkiart said the five suspects had been arrested at 3:40pm on Sunday while they were about to board a bus to Narathiwat at the Southern Bus Terminal in Taling Chan district.

The suspects admitted that they had been paid Bt50,000 by a man, identified only as “Maeng”, to pick up the drugs from a location and take them to the southern border province. They told the police that they had on a previous occasion managed to smuggle meth pills into the deep South without getting caught, the deputy police chief added.

A sobering thought - how hard is it to manufacture 5 million pills?

Pay 50k transport per 200,000 pills / 25 cars.

Police caught one car - 100 more waiting to take over that run.

...so where does 'allegedly' come in....???

They allegedly confessed.

Who knows what they told the cops- or why?  I'm always just a little suspicious of the BIB's declarations to begin with, and even more so when their suspects quickly confess not only to the crime at hand (to get their leniency, apparently) but also to a string of previous crimes which buys them nothing- but may serve somebody's purposes.
