^ I'm going to assume you don't have any mates here!. It is who you lend it to, not where you are!

not sure about that, when you've been here longer and had some thai friends to tell you about life here you'll know that culturally repayment of loaned money between family and 'friends' is often fraught with problems. thais' seem to have no conscience about not repaying money they borrow. lend some money to a thai and find out.

If you attend the dwindling bar-beers in Chiang mai do not take a mixed drink. You may be drugged. (Beware of ladyboys). Observe the lady open it and drink from the bottle-neck . Don't take ice, often dirty/made from tapwater. Do not run a tab. Don't be a cheap charlie, paying for a few lady drinks won't kill you. And don't take any advice from the "ex SAS" commando wearing out a barstool for 20 years, he knows NOTHING.

I don't take my eyes away from where I am walking. Otherwise I might fall into a hole.

Unfortunately I did and I did.

Hmmmm. If I'm paying for a lady drink, it's because I have some interest in the lady. The ones on show along Loi Kroh are so "interesting" that I'd rather stay in and watch tv. Sad days indeed.

Did you ever see Thai people eating cockroaches? They do eat a lot of bugs, one looks very similar to a cockroach but it is actually a water beatle. As such probably cockroaces are edible but they do live in a filty contaminated environment plus there is also a chance they just ate some poison before being cought for consumption.

Don't assume your mates will still be in the country in a year or two.

It's a transient expat population. People come and go.

Don't assume that pretty and tall lady that you met in the bar was born a girl.

No, I didn't get caught out, as far as I know! :shock1:

Marry a Thai citizen or make any serious investment. The country is a swamp full of crocodiles perfectly camouflaged for the existing environment. You're just another herd animal with unjustifiable pretensions. . Never kid yourself that you're a predator,  or even in control.

You seem to ooze positivity. I bet your life is trouble free!!!!

That could happen with any girl, anywhere in the world, I got involved with a Thai girl over 10 years ago, purchased land in her name, built a property, purchased a car and bike in her name and am very happy, if things go pair-shape, I see it as only investing as much as I am prepared to lose with plan B leaving me the other 90% which is overseas and cannot be accessed by anyone except me.

Funny thing is this is the same advise which is usually given to people visiting a casino: never risk the money you cannot afford to lose. Thailand for farangs is a big casino where the house edge is always against them. And the longer you play (or more you invest) - the more you lose at the end.

1 - Never assume the left side of the road is your "half"

2 - Never brag about how many supercars you have in storage back home, or how big your superannuation account is, or how many overseas properties you own all collecting tidy monthly rental.

When walking on a sidewalk, expect the oncoming Thai to suddenly move directly into your path, as will Thais exiting doorways.

If there is only one ATM, the person in front will have 10 transactions...then pull out a second card...

If you have a food allergy or restriction, never assume a restaurant will: A, Give you an accurate list of ingredients, B: Omit whatever ingredients you ask them to omit. ( Cooks generally run on auto-pilot, never making adjustments to anything)

If you are in a shop and they don't have the item you are looking for, don't bother asking where nearby it might be found...they'll never tell you.

Thais frequently lower themselves to a prostitutes level, or even about 15cm below depends how fat they are.

Seems you have expert knowledge in that area...:whistling:

Actually I see it differently, for example when I married my Thai wife back in 2007 she signed a prenuptial agreement which stated what I have is mine and what she has is hers, prenuptial agreements in Australia are part of the Family Law Act and stand, however in the United Kingdom I have been told are not worth the paper they are written on, because they were never part of the Family Law Act.

Having said that, if I didn't have her sign a prenuptial, now with two kids, she would be entitled to 75% of my worth quite easily, whereas here, I have invested 10% of my worth in a nice large house, new car, scooter, furniture etc etc, so I think the casino I am in that you refer to is providing e with better odds.

I understand what you are saying about a lot of farangs hedging their bets and spending more than they can afford, but that my friend is all over the world and guys have to wake up to the fact that they are open targets when it comes to family law, suffice to say if they go in blind and wear their hearts on their sleeves, the snake will eventually take that bite, that is, unless they have their foot on the back of the snakes neck, i.e. if I go, you miss out on the big payout and there is nothing you can do, its insurance against the bitches in my eyes 555

Wai to children, monks, and soi dogs.

Or the checkout staff at Tesco, BigC, or even hotel cleaning staff.

Post a political opinion of any sort on Thai Visa unless you want a pack of dogs on your tail.

Don't insult real dogs.  Real dogs are not melodramatic, have more sense, not all bark and no bite.
