Revenge attacks: security boost for Buddhist communities in Yala

By The Nation

YALA: -- The authorities on Monday stepped up security for Buddhist communities, especially those in Betong district in Pattani province, following a warning by intelligence agencies that Muslim insurgent will increase attacks to avenge their leaders’ killings and arrests.

Betong district chief Damrong Disakul has instructed tambon defence volunteer unit to step up patrols for Buddhist communities of the district.

Betong police station chief Colonel Suchart Sa-id also instructed police officers to patrol the communities more frequently.

The district’s residents have been warned that Muslim insurgents will increase attacks in retaliation to the extra-judicial killings and arrests of RKK leaders recently.

Interesting admission that extra-judicial killings are occurring. Sadly, the military's cannon fodder aka defense volunteers will be the target for retribution while army troops fall back to their "safe zones" for security.
