WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee said on Wednesday that it had called President Donald Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort to testify on July 26 at a hearing.

Trump Jr. and Manafort are expected to be questioned about allegations that Russia meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Another Trump relative, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, will be interviewed by U.S. senators on Monday, Kushner's attorney said.

Senate aides declined to confirm his appearance.

"Working with and being responsive to the schedules of the committees, we have arranged Mr. Kushner's interview with the Senate for July 24," Kushner's attorney, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement. "He will continue to cooperate and appreciates the opportunity to assist in putting this matter to rest."

The Judiciary Committee announced Trump Jr. and Manafort's appearance in a statement on its website.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democratic member of the Judiciary Committee, said the hearing would enable the panel to begin to get testimony under oath.

"There has been an enormous amount that has been said publicly but it's not under oath, which means that people are free to omit matters or lie with relative impunity," Whitehouse told CNN.

GOOD. I'd love to see 45 questioned also. Ah but then again that would be pointless b/c all he does is lie.

It's also going to be a public session.  Should be interesting!!!

I still believe that Manafort is the key here. If Manafort flips or tells all, then the whole house of cards will collapse. Manafort holds a bunch of secrets that if outed will destroy many people. Here's to hope!

The next move might also involved Jeff Sessions since the "POTUS" just stated that he would never have hired Sessions if Sessions was just going to recuse himself from the Russian investigation. Now Sessions will probably resign and no longer have any loyalty to the current administration. It will be interesting to see what Sessions will do next.

The way the "POTUS" keeps tossing people under the bus there won't be anybody left standing.

I think many of 45's gang deserve to be under the bus. Bet 45 would throw his kids under the bus if it would save his fat butt.

Ari Fleischer: Trump Hiring Family Members Is 'Messy'

"If something goes wrong, how do you deal with that person if they're a family member, if they're a close relative to the president."

"How do you chastise them? How do you discipline them?

"When you have somebody who is a family member and other people in the White House have a disagreement with that person,

you're no longer disagreeing with a co-worker, now you're disagreeing with the president's daughter," he said. "It's tricky."

One reason so many were against having family members in the White House.  What we feared has happened.

They will just lie because DT will pardon them later

I fear this won't bring us any closer to the demise of Trump.  The chance of getting honest and truthful answers from this bunch is very unlikely indeed.

Maybe all Americans could send him coupons for free Big Macs and french fries; he could gorge himself non stop.

Honesty from 45 and his regime? lol lol Oh that'll be the day.

What a difference he is from a genuine U.S. Constitution focused President. Well he and his kind have been doing as they please for a long time and w/out repercussions.  Oh how I long to see they held responsible for all their questionable actions.

Thus far, Trump family and associates don't seem bothered about oaths such as those made in federal disclosure forms to lie. If they don't take the fifth in congressional questioning, I wouldn't trust them to tell the truth.

Trump's public Russia comments could cause legal headaches for him — and his kids

Investigators can use the president's interview to establish facts and intent, potentially creating stumbling blocks for others touched by the case and making it harder for the many lawyers involved to coordinate.

    (sub-title)

"President Donald Trump’s decision to talk off the cuff about the Russia probe to reporters allowed him to put out his version of events — but increased the legal risks to him, as well as to his children and the growing number of associates who have been pulled into the expanding investigation."

"Every public statement by the president or others involved opens a line of questioning for special counsel Robert Mueller or lawmakers exploring the contacts between Trump associates and Russia during the 2016 election."

"Like the president’s tweets, his interviews can be used to establish facts or intent, offering investigators a gold mine of information but potentially creating conflicts for others that can lead to headaches for their various lawyers — or to criminal charges including perjury or obstruction of justice."

You nailed it: Trump team seeks to control, block Mueller’s Russia investigation

    Quote

Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves.

This also appears further down in the article:

    Quote

[Trump] has told aides he was especially disturbed after learning Mueller would be able to access several years of his tax returns.

There must really be something juicy in those returns.

Mark Warner: 'Extremely disturbing' if Trump is considering pardons at this stage of Russia probe

"Sen. Mark Warner, ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said it is "extremely disturbing" if President Trump

is considering pardoning himself and others close to him in connection with the federal probe examining Russian interference in the 2016 election."

"Pardoning individuals who may have been involved would be crossing a fundamental line."

"The Washington Post reported Thursday that Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides,

family members, and even himself in connection with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation."
