Bar 'lady drink' etiquette?

The girls can make pretty good dough on the drinks, and if someone wants to bar-fine them, the fact that you've a drink or two invested may give you first right of refusal, but it does not lock in for the night...

You're paying for her time, not the drink.
The only reason I'd never want to be a bargirl is guys insisting I have to drink poison ( alcohol is poison, though not usually instantly fatal- it just takes a few years to kill one ).
 
PS, I have to add ignorant guys blowing cigar smoke in my face to the reasons I wouldn't want to be a bargirl.

My friend hosts a poker game where the entry fee covers dinner and one beer.

 

Jim, an alcoholic, said, "I don't drink so can I open a beer and pour it out?"  He was serious.

 

It seems some others have the same mindset:

"I'm going to get my damn money's worth even if it is entirely wasted".

Not at all, you seem to have closed your mind on this. If you don't care what she is drinking the bar could easily be ripping you off and charging spirit price for an  orange juice and that is wrong.  I agree though that it is up to her what she drinks (so long as not too expensive)

I have seen very few girls drinking shorts. Usually san Miguel light.

Most bars I've been in have a fixed price for lady drinks.  I would only feel ripped off if she vanishes quickly.

This is a story about drinks and bar girl made me laugh.

3pm guy walks into bar orders a bottle of Tiger and sits by bar. Starts talking to a girl and buys her a bottle. About half hour later he gets another Tiger and i a rather loud voice says to girl you can have one if i get to ****  you later.

Without missing a beat the girl turns round and again quite loudly says No thank you to the drink and no chance to the other thing you mentioned. His face was a picture turned bright red and couldnt get out of bar quick enough.

Moral of the story they may work in a bar but that doesnt mean there easy meat or will stand being abused by an idiot.

I may be a bit out of date (not been in Thailand for 6 months) but in CM the type of drink the girl ordered had a direct relationship with what you paid. But i have been in the P'pinnes recently and what you say is true there, you pay a set price and they get a 'c..p' drink. Couldn't agree more about her vanishing quickly, i always ask the girl first if anyone else has brought her a drink and if she vanshes (without my OK) i won't pay for it. It has happened a few times, the bar or mamasan have understood and i have been told the girl then has to pay!

A solution is to get some superglue from 7/11 and stick it onto their seat

They cannot get away then

May cause a few issues later, if you want to take her home and shes got a barstool stuck to her ass , but you just have to deal with problems, as they arise

Just some of my own personal experience

A Thai lady bar owner in LK, would quite often make an offer to felangs

"You buy me a shot (tequila) , and I will buy you one back"

Usually agreed upon

Got the tequila bottles from the shelf, poured them out

100 Baht a shot, 200  Baht on the felangs bill

Two drinks each

One night, she wasnt there

We got the shots ourselves, fully intending to pay for them

One of the bottles were shots, the other was water

She was pouring shots for the felangs and pouring herself water from a different bottle .

    Easy 200 Baht

You are paying for her time. The beverage is a token irrelevance.

 

There's probably not enough alcohol in the bar to make you handsome.

 

Many of the girls detest tequila and it is devastating to their health and appearance. Cute young things 

come into the bar scene and after weeks of drinks they don't look cute or young anymore.

 

When I (rarely) buy a drink I tell them I don't care what they order,  juice, water, tea, tequila, whatever.

 

Answer to your first line. They think it will get them drunk and a better lay. It doesn't work like that. The last thing you want is a drunken bar girl on your hands. Most of them dont have a very god tolerance to alcohol and they tend to just want to go to sleep.

I agree with the last line though. Juice, coke,  whatever, it was still only 30 baht on the price of a drink.

As for it being a "Big blow to my self esteem " , not really , as I never took up the offer of buying shots , as I dont think shots .

    But the offer of "Buy me one shot (water) and I buy you one" was taken up by quite a lot of customers

The People were not drinking shots at the time .

I am sure that she made a lot more profit from selling shots, to selling Changs

The offer was of being one round of shot each 

*You buy us one each, I buy us one each*

It would be rather untoward for a bar owner to try to sell shots to customers

So, the , *Buy me one, I buy you one* was a way to sell them shots and it comes across as they are getting a free shot , like, *The bar owners buying me a drink*

That generally goes with being a bargirl. If I was a female and I didn't like being pawed, I wouldn't be a bargirl. Cigars on the other hand, are, IMO, a disgusting and vile habit that should never be inflicted on other people.

Buying someone working or not, a drink does not give anyone the right to paw at anyone.

If they do then they should accept that they may well get a slap or a slaging of in Thai.

I guess you haven't been in many "hostess' type bars then.

A lot more than a bit of "pawing" goes on in them, and it's not just the guys doing it, as I have experienced.

I have no idea, as I don't go in hostess bars in C M. Do any even exist in this nightlife backwater?
