PHUKET:-- A Chinese tourist died after she was overcome by strong waves that threw her off a rock and drew her into the sea at Kamala Beach this morning.

Pan Ying, 32, reportedly fell in at about 11:30am. Rescue workers and lifeguards quickly took action to bring her back to shore. However, they were unable to resuscitate her and she was pronounced dead.

“Ms Pan had been on a trip to Phuket with her family. She arrived yesterday and was staying at a hotel in Kamala. This morning, after breakfast, she walked to the beach to take pictures with her friends. Suddenly, a strong wave threw her off and she fell into the water. Her friends immediately requested hotel staff for help,” said Lt Col Yossaphat Suvansit of Kamala Police.

The wind was blowing very hard at Kamala beach this morning.

No way would I have been in the water or on any rock near it.

Very sad story, as the Chinese tourists seems to be a gazelle getting a drink from a gator infested watering hole.

Poor girl...

I am not familiar with Kamala Beach, but are they no lifeguards on duty in such tourist areas or at most,  warning flags when the tides are rough?

In the op it says lifeguards brought her back to shore. And yes, also red flags, warning signs, etc.

As the locals say the signs are more than clear and in Chinese also.

As the headline says "Another".

At least weekly.

Sad but true.

Actually two, an 11 year old yesterday and this woman today. Sad ending for a family vacation.

And as long as they don't show just a little bit of common sense, they will continue to drown.

I don't think they understand how dangerous swimming in the sea can be. It's not a common practice in the Peoples Republic

.

And when their only here for only 1-3 days, they can't wait for better conditions.
