Some people can "handle" money others cant and it can and has been proven to destroy lives.

There have been many lottery winners /Stars/celebrities who self destruct with wealth because they couldnt handle it.

Off course I would. Everyone wants to be really really rich. Those that say they don't are lying.

Those that are rich and are unhappy are obviously using the money in the wrong way.

" those who say the don't are lying" and you know this how? I can asure you i would hate to be that rich , i like having money but riches would be wasted on me

i am with you. £80 billion is OK but 88 billion is nothing but obscene. i'd give away 8 billion not to be called obscene. :cheesy:

Take what you need and leave the rest.

I believe it was a British comedian (can't quite recall his name) who quipped that anyone who collected a billion of anything would have his sanity questioned.  Yet when it's money that's collected then the desired amount is, as Buzz Lightyear famously said, to infinity and beyond.  And these people are highly regarded and respected, even worshiped by some.  And strictly because they have so much wealth their sage (ahem!) opinions are then sought by so many, as if the accumulation of obscene wealth automatically begets wisdom.

Too many people believe that money, by and of itself, can solve so many problems; that money is the producer of happiness and an easy life.  Go for it if you wish.

So there is a guy sitting on 88 billion. There is alo a Thai female construction worker slaving for 300 Bht/day.

Leads me to believe that we truly live in some sort of perverted Garden of Eden.

Something went wrong along the way.
Cheers.

If you were really rich, you might have a whole team, with a manager to select the best in the world, a specialist for every vice, every obscure frivolous but extravagant diversion; someone to travel the world first class and view the wonders of the world, someone else to sink into a depravity of drugs and decadence, and particularly aptly, someone to  make and correct your typos and spelling mistakes.  I feel sorry for the poor bugger that would have to do my drinking, if I could afford to delegate that chore

it is a well known fact that money alone does not provide happiness. you need also stocks, bonds, immobile property, works of art, precious metals/stones, a caribbean island, a 300' yacht, a 747, a fleet of supercars and (if your wife approves) a mia noi (or two).

I wouldn't mind being super-rich, but something like 5 million dollars would be enough to live the rest of my life as comfortably as I really need. No matter how much money I had, I would try to spend most of it before I died, but would put a lot of it into a charity for abandoned/feral pets and give the rest to people of my choosing.

Running a charity in Thailand to help animals is a fantasy that will likely never happen, although I did run a small one at one time when I was doing well enough to afford it.

I work on the yachts of the mega rich.. Can honestly say, in 20yrs, I have not met more than a couple of owners that seemed genuinely happy !!

Just last year, anchored in Sardinia, there must have been in excess of 2 billion dollars worth of floating toys. I'm sure that money could be put to better use somewhere in the world ??

But then they do pay my wages :)

During my life, I have made serious dollars. Like many people do not think, making serious money has risks as well. Last time round, after losing serious dollars, my health suffered terribly, and I walked away from it all. I have seen deceit, treachery and all sorts of evil stuff done. Families ruined, people hurt, law suits to just destroy others because they got too big for their boots, people set up and the list goes on.

In my view of life, nothing is so important as your health and your family.

My family have money; I walked away to Thailand 10 years ago as I had enough and wanted to get away from it all. I have not got that much money, but with a pension now and a good wife, I have all I need. Once my family passes on (and they are elderly now), I will once again have to deal with it all again and in many ways, I am not looking forward to the fact.

I just wish my family would live forever as it would fix a lot of things. Some of us, just don't want to deal with it all.

Still, money is a benefit and can help if used in the right way. My wife and I have been helping a mentally ill girl for the last few months. Without the specialist care she has received, she most likely would have been dead by now.  The 30 baht hospitals just could not give her the care and drugs she needed. To see the improvement in her life and to ask for nothing in return has been good for me. We had coffee with her last week and to see her smiling, planning her future and not in the deep place of depression she was in, was priceless.

Nope, money is good to have but to be super, super rich, I do not want the trappings that go with it.
