A Toyota mechanic spoke of his pride after being able to help save the lives of two men caught in a pick-up being dragged under flood waters in Sakon Nakorn.

Some of the lead up to the rescue was caught on a video from the Toyota showroom across the road. The screams of the female staff urging the men to help make for dramatic viewing.

Chief mechanic Phongphat "Joe" Saengsri was outside the showroom with two others when they saw the pick-up in difficulty. It was being washed into a klong by a bridge.

Joe said they only had seconds to respond as the pick-up - containing the owner of a second hand car tent across the street and an employee - started to disappeared below the waters.

He said that they called on the occupants to open the window but when they didn't he tried to kick in the window.

That failed but then the people inside opened the window the three rescuers were able to get them out just in time.

"We only had a matter of seconds to save them, " said Joe, "It really was that close".

He said him and his colleagues had been surprised at some comments online criticizing their rescue attempts.

Most had praised him and his colleagues for their quick and decisive action in saving two lives. The other rescuers were named as Theerapong Thipprawat and Phoomin Phiaphak.

good work men.

good thing where were some Thai women there to tell you what to do otherwise nothing get done in this country.

Not a lot of point posting that so called video, there were more shots of the floor or other stuff rather than the action heroes

I love when the police pick-up pulls up and nobody gets out to assist !

Classic BiB.
