Thaksin and his family are elites. Only they wanted it all for themselves.

Nothing to do with challenging the systems of patronage and feudalism per se - just who benefited the most.

Why some foreigners persist in pretending the Shins are anything more than that mystifies me.

I agree.. just an other bunch of elites nothing more.

It's a specific charge leveled by the most corrupt, venal coterie in the land. There is zero credibility in someone like Prayuth bringing charges against anyone for corruption or misuse of the state coffers.

She isn't being charged with corruption. And the current PM isn't the one bringing the charges.

Those myths are what the Shin fans persist in claiming. "It's all political, it's a witch hunt against her because she's so popular, she didn't do anything wrong" etc etc.

But the reality is, the charge of negligence is being heard in court. She is the defendant and will be judged on the evidence presented in accordance with the Thai legal system.

Period,

All else is chit chat and chaff - and irrelevant.

That's where you're wrong. And that's where  - time and time again - the TVF junta fan boys are always wrong.  I loathed the Shins and still do, but loathe the junta just as much. It wasn't about the Shins challenging anything, it was about how the elites perceived latter's grassroots popularity among the socio-economically marginalized sector of the population.  Unlike yourself, I do not support either side of the so-called political divide.  Quite the opposite.

You might disagree.. but the case is about rice.. its about negligence.. you want it to be bigger.. you want it to be many things.. but she is tried by law on a case.. and that case is solid. Its her own fault for not listening to the warnings.. ignoring them.. not showing up  at meetings and listening to her brother. She is responsible for her own actions.

All your constantly doing is trying to deflect from the case .. changing the topic bringing the elites into it power and wealth.. just to deflect from the fact that she is guilty. Its quite standard tactics from your side. If guilty deflect.. talk about bad junta.. but never the real topic as you cant disprove the facts.

No Rob, it is actually about something much bigger, yet you seem to be unable to grasp that.  I am not deflecting, I'm calling it what it is. DO you think any political analyst would disagree with what I've said? What is your big hard-on for the junta about?  I really don't get it.  Just cause you have a dangerously pathological hatred against someone doesn't mean their enemies are your friends.

So you claim. But it's always the claim of the Shin fans that any who dare criticize or point out the Shin lies must be Junta lovers. Again deflection.

You are drinking too much Shin Kool Aid sport. They, and their propagandists and PR people, want to create this myth about the Shins representing the poor, and being some sort of social democrats. It's all a load of cobblers.

It's simply the Shins wanting to grab a bigger share, in fact not wanting to share with anyone else. Thaksin was quick to see how that could be achieved through politics. Ironically he may well have opened the eyes of people which I doubt was ever his intention.

Your got a hard on for the Shins.. i guess so.. (junta has nothing to do with this). I dislike the Shins.. i support the junta on some things.. disagree on others.. guess you can't see it you say others accuse you of being a shin fanboy. .you do the same to me and others. I have often stood against junta Ideas.. but I guess that is too much for you to process..

This is not bigger.. its about rice.. the charge is negligence.. the world bank warned her.. She never chaired meetings.. the policy was corrupt.. she is just being held accountable.. the way she should be. She was in control of her own actions.. she chose the path she took.. She chose to ignore the world bank, chose not to go to any meetings, chose not to act on the corruption.. her top MP's were in the fake G2G deals..

This is a solid case and that is why you deflect.

Seriously, sorry but you don't grasp reality. You fall into the trap, easily led it seems, that this is all some big political complex thing.

It isn't. The Shins wanted it all and didn't get it. Poor Yingluck is one of the ones who might be made to pay.

Sigh... how many times do I have to assert I'm not a Shin fan just because I condemn the junta?  Why is it so hard for you to get your head around that?  It's really not that difficult to understand.  But given your views,. who knows, maybe that is a bit of a mental leap to make.

*LOL* that is exactly how you treat me and others.. but you ask yourself not to be treated like that.. you know.. treat others the way you want to be treated would be a good step.. I told you this before but you don't change.. so others see you the way you are .

What do you mean? You openly, blatantly take a side.  I don't.  There's a big difference.

That is what you say.. there is no difference between us at all.  (just other views)

You fail to recognize the times I criticized the junta. The way you post its easy to mistake for Shin lover.

Because I don't endorse a "government" that makes free speech a crime and invents something as utterly both frightening and absurd as Attitude Adjustment does not mean I support the Shins.  Again, try, and do try, and understand that not everyone supports one side or the other. And do stop feigning all this neutrality nonsense on your part. It's obvious what your sympathies/pathological hatreds are.

No, I don't agree, the car-policy was announced before the floods.

The flood started in July 2011 and by August it covered lower Thailand and Ayutthaya where most auto manufacturers located. The policy start Sept and end Dec following year. I left my flooded house in Klong 3 Pathumthani in late September. Figure that out.

Again you tar me in one way..  while its not true.. so I will keep calling you a Shin lover until you accept that I don't support the junta unconditional.  There are plenty of things I dislike about them and I want to see an end to their rule. I have said that countless times you ignored it.. so as long as you do that.. in my book your a Shin Lover.

Once again Rob, and I know it's very difficult, but I hated the Shins, but cannot - or ever will - support an entity that makes free speech a crime and summons its own citizens for Attitude Adjustment.  And I am not deflecting. I'm merely pointing out the much bigger picture which has thus far evaded you.  You are falling for the junta's long-term PR stunt: distract public attention to what is really going on... or at least attempt to do so and hope enough people actually fall for the charade. Congratulations.

An academically and thoroughly unjustifiable conclusion to reach.  Your hatred is almost palpable.

Hate is a strong word, I don't lose any sleep over the issue. I would not care if an other Shin gets in power.

The bigger picture is not there mate, its a court-case and if you look at what she is judged for its about rice.. her closing statement was about rice. I wont deny that the junta will be happy to get rid of her, but they can prevent stuff like this by following the rules and listening to others. They don't so they suffer.

Now they want a Shin with insider trading convictions run the show.. it does show that this is not about Thailand.. this is about bringing the Shins back to power and nothing more. Its about bringing Thaksin back that is it.  If they for once try to play by the rules instead of breaking them (but that is not profitable and wont enhance their power) the junta will have no way to dislodge them.

Good God Rob, the rice is a pretext.  Its socio-economic, political foes going after each other because they view one another as a mutual threat.  The court case is merely a piece of theatre that you have fallen for.  You're not the only one.

What rules ?  Thailand does not have rule of law and they do not need that for a coup anyway.  You are delusional if you think the Army or the Thai elite will allow yet another Shinawatra to take office.  The loss of face would be devastating, strike three.  Given your junta's poor performance, the Shin sister would likely win, but it will not happen.  It is time to expand outside of Thailand.

This is all about one thing and that is the money thus power. The one side got to popular the other side did not like the fact they would loose control if it was allowed to continue. If you have the time like it looks like you have just search two people one beginning with S and one beginning with P and there is the answer and if you look closely it is not nice. But if you do not have VPN of course you will not find it. Embassy secret email are a good source and that is only a hint.

Most country's in the world went through this at sometime, some 500 years ago, so in time the same results will happen here or it will turn into a NK2 which looks like its days are also numbered.

I always stayed out of it but one poster on here who always talks double dutch got my attention as they seem to suffer from a Obsessive Compulsive Disorder called YL as they just cannot leave it alone and always at every chance input the name just to have another dig. This said to me an Elite card holder who is trying to make themselves look good and gain favours. So naturally I took the underdog side as most not stupid people do like me do. Mind you with a little research I soon understood the problem as we have all seen it so many times before in the history of our own country.

The French dealt with it the best way, poor old Spain had to suffer with it for 40 years, lets hope that does not happen here.

With so much going on in the world these last 5 years, backwaters are left alone, but in time this will change and some of the posters on here will be packing to go home or most probably changing sides.

So sad to see such a beautiful country suffer so much when it would be in the best interests of all to come together and work for a better future. But blatant properganda will not allow that right now, but in time like most other countries it will I hope for the sake of the 60 million who suffer from poor pay, flooded homes, bad education, horrific roads and racialism. The later is an insult to humanity just like the one sided situation under our feet.

I am looking forward to a free and prosperous future for everyone here not just those who run it now.

Good god.. the crime is real... get it in your mind. Don't do the crime they can't touch you. The court can't judge you if you don't break the law. Don't call it political because it helps the junta. They did it to themselves. Good god.. i can't believe the excuses of you guys.

In my book political is thumped up charges.. not real ones.

Yes I am holding an Elite card.. gaining favors, wow. Before I always had low opinion of your mental powers, but that remark really confirmed it. People posting here to gain favors of the junta. I had to pick myself up from the floor after that gem.

You don't even live here you could not cut it here anymore and bailed. I too would come back to this forum if I had to stay in the UK so I don't hold it against you to post here. I hope it relieves the pain a bit.

I do like commenting about YL because the case is solid against here and I was always against the rice scam. Its good to see it come to its conclusion this way and watch the court decide if she is guilty or not.

Its the standard red defense if someone is guilty.. then its political.

"Don't do the crime they can't touch you"... tell that to the 2 Burmese lads sentenced death over the Koh Tao murders. And when you're done, go tell it to every other innocent person rotting in a Thai jail because they were made a scapegoat or made an enemy out of someone richer than them.  And finally Rob, no crime is "real" until that crime is proven in an actual credible court of law.

Yea put YL on the same level as those 2 with her money and power.. do you want me to die laughing so you don't have someone to debate with.

People with money like YL won't go to jail unless they are absolutely 100% guilty and then more times as not will they never see the inside of a jail. If you havent learned that here in all those years you havent paid any attention.

I can grantee you.. she won't see the inside of a jail even if guilty.

I didn't say she would see the inside of a jail, I was merely highlighting your comment: "Don't do the crime they can't touch you" within the context of Thailand, and just how absurd it is. And with regards to what I have learned all these years, dear Thailand guru, I do apologise. I must educate myself more on Thainess.
