Does anybody know of a cheap hotel near the airport?

My children need to make a 6am checkin on Monday next and there are no flights early enough to connect from Chiang Mai.

(The Bt 3,000 plus for Novotel etc are somewhat beyond budget.)

i didnt think there was anything in the fan room class close to don muang, you had to go out to rangsit for a 500 baht jobbie

plenty of cheap places along sukhumvit, Crown, hotel 27, Federal etc around 350 - 400 baht and you will be going against the traffice early morning

but leave lots of time incase you get stuck. 3 hours till check in opens and 2 hours from sukhumvit - 5 hours for me but im paranoid and have been travelling all my working life

you might try the other way, siracha for example, cos its motorway all the way

Inncome is nearer although Sanawan is cheaper and looks not 2 bad .

Bear in mind that a taxi to the airport for a 6-00am check in...assume leaveing hotel/b&b at say 5-00 will only take you about 15 minutes... :o

I’ve just stayed at Avana Hotel in Bangna. It’s a 20 minute, 70 Baht public taxi ride from the airport.

Rooms are about 1,000-1,500 Baht a night and clean. Free Pot Noodles, coffee, ovaltine and snacks provided in the rooms.

The hotel has a laundry, mini mart, coffee shop, traditional massage at 250B for an hour (400 for 2 hours) and a nice swimming pool.

Secon Square for shopping is 20 minutes taxi ride and On Nut BTS is about 30 minutes taxi ride.

The hotel has a minivan service to the airport for 150 Baht.

I will be trying it out in a couple of weeks.

I stayed at Sanawan Palace 3 times over the past few weeks and plan to stay there again every time there is a late/early flight to catch. The rooms are an exceptional value, it is run by friendly English speaking staff, and has all the amenities you could ask for (swimming pool, snooker table, fitness room, 24hr room service, internet, and even do it youself laundry for 30 baht per load).

Air con rooms start at 350 baht and I think fan rooms are about 200 to 250 baht. I stayed with my family in a 500 baht room that was far better than anything I've stayed in along Suhumvit or Khao San road for twice the price. It takes as little as 15 minutes to and from the airport, but make sure you have the phone number handy, as it is in the middle of nowhere and taxi drivers usually don't have a clue how to get there without directions from the hotel staff.

Hi Can you be more specific about the internet conection ? Is it using your modem with the phone line in your room or WiFi ? Is it only a computer at reception that you can 'play' with ?

The hotel has a minivan service to the airport for 150 Baht.

I am staying at the Avana now (Feb8) and I will add the following :

1. The mini van is only available departing the hotel at 5am, 7am and 9am. At all other times you can either take a public taxi which may or may not agree to put on the meter or you can book a private minivan ride for 600 baht

2. You can pre-book the 600 baht mini van from the airport which means your driver will wait with your name plate at customs exit and you are sure the ride will be 20 minutes as not all drivers know the quickest way out of the airport to Bang Na (South West of the airport) area

3. The hotel has broadband WiFi access in all rooms for 70 baht an hour or 170 bat for 3 hours

4. The swiming pool is nice but is surounded by tables of the hotel restaurant which means that a morning swim would be made as an attraction to the crowd having their (included in the room price) excellent/wide choice of buffet breakfast.

5. There is a Central shoping center and a BigC shoping mall very near (5 minutes taxi or tuk tuk ride) the hotel

6. The hotelis located off Bang Na Highway, far enough not to have the noise but it also means quite a walk and not really suited to walk around to some shops or other commmercial outlest as it is located in a residential area.

7. The rooms are clean but getting worn and some furnitures are tainted and show heavy use. At those prices the hotel runs almost full all the time or so it seems. I am paying 1.100 (inclusive) for a 19th floor room with bath, double bed, balcony, working desk, TV, fridge, safe, hot water pot.

I would return on a future visit but will try the Sanawan Palace first as it seems more 'human size', cheaper and nearer the airport.

Unfortunately, there is only a PC in a room behind reception for 20 baht per 1/2 hour. There are phones in the rooms (at least the ones I have seen) so you may be able to gain dial up access in your room. I'll have a talk with them about adding a wireless N connection that should be able to reach all 153 rooms. From the amount of business they have been doing lately, I'm sure It wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for that. I called them and they seem to be very reluctant to come up with info or seem they do not seek business...

They seemed to say the pool was not usable now (when was your last visit), also they could notprovide the transfer from/to the airport even for a fee..

Their website seems to be down also

Any comments ?

Their web site was up and running 10 minutes ago.

I have stayed at the Sanawan palace once and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are definately value for money.

I have made 2 bookings for next month.
