And who can forget H & claire?! :o

to the tune of the Barbie Song:

I'm a roller girl...

In a roller wo-oo-orld.

Life's fantastic....

etc.....

And who can forget H & claire?!

not only are you showing your age, your also telling the world you're sad :D I don't know how to break it to you but they broke up :o

I was referring to one of our fellow users, my dear Boo. One of your ladies in fact, who has put forth claims insinuating she was the "claire" part of Steps.

(btw.. britain didn't adopt Steps til I'd emigrated, alright!! it would never have been permitted under my rule! :o)

OK forgiven but only if you tell me who wants to be claire from steps :o

OK forgiven but only if you tell me who wants to be claire from steps :D

I may have had a bit of a crush on her.. :o

Now you're just being difficult!!

I can't answer that... Too busy watching Twiggy (1978) on TOTP 2....

:D

OK forgiven but only if you tell me who wants to be claire from steps :D

I'd rather be Claire than 'H'!

I'd rather be 'H' than Gary Glitter :o

Many good artists mentioned, in fact I'd probably find it difficult to find a bad one, IMO, out of any listed so far.

Wow, I opended up a can of worms eh? This is great though keep it all coming. I find I need more new music and the UK seems to be producing better then the US.

there is a lot of brit music inspired by the US, namely the blues...John Mayall had one of the best stables of all time including Clapton and Mick Taylor, he quit the Stones; I saw him with Mayall and with the Stones, no histrionics, body perfectly still, wailing on slide and setting the audience aflame. As for the blues maybe youl'd want to ask Jimmy Page where he got his muse from...

but...I am a dinosour...almost got into blows with some english <deleted> about guitar heroes and politics like the Clash and the Smiths 'MUSIC IS ENTERTAINMENT...NOOOO YOU ###### IT SERVES THE PEOPLE...' dumb trot muhfuh...

in my youthful dissipation in southern California there was Jethro Tull and Zep between hits of acid...the Stand Up album comes to mind...

what a time...popular music hasn't been the same since...

does anyone like the Incredible String Band?...I sure did like their music and saw them at a concert in Big Sur in CA with Joanie, Joni and CSN...

they had a good mixture of english folk and eclecticism...'my name is Death cannot you see...'

Judy Collins, a big number in the US at the time ('69 - '70) did a cover of First Girl I Loved...very nice but not as gritty...nice acoustic guitar work on the original...

It's funny you should bring this up as one of the docs I was watching was about the Pixies influence on British music.

Aren't they from Ireland? :o

America invented Rock N' Roll and we have had some wonderful, amazing singing groups, however, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin beat any American bands hands down.

When it comes to modern music, Britannica still rules the waves! :o

doesn't come as a surprise, eh?

Moreover, Jimi Hendrix had to come to the UK to become popular...that says it all...

They probably went to the UK for work. :D

That's why I said 'British' and not UK..... The United Kingdom of Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales, the British Isles includes both Northern and Southern Ireland...... Jeeze.

Cold Play.

U2 are from Dublin in The Republic of Ireland, I would imagine they would be unhappy at being called British.

Anyway.. I left Texas off my original list.

YA! :bah: :bah:

Haven't looked back to see if they've been mentioned but my all-time favorite British band is Fairport Convention with Sandy Denny at lead vocal.

Absolutely the best concert I've ever wittnessed in person. :o

This is correct. We (me included) from the ROI are not British!!! We are Irish. Being from the British Isles doth not a Brit make! People from England, Scotland and Wales may be technically called British (and even some of these don't like the title) N Ireland remains the eternal debate.

ps Please lets not open a discussion on this though!

I still listen to Wee Tam these days. Great lyricists.

The Half-Remarkable Question

Who moved the black castle

Who moved the white queen

When Gimmel and Daleth where standing between?

Out of the evening growing a veil

Pining for the pine woods that ached for the sail

There's something forgotten I want you to know

The freckles of rain are telling me so

O it's the old forgotten question

What is that we are part of?

What is it that we are?

And an elephant madness has covered the sun

The judge and the juries they play for the fun

They've torn up the roses and washed all the soap

And the martyr who marries them dares not elope

O it's the never realised question

O long O long e're yet my eyes

Braved the gates enormous fire

And the body folded 'round me

And the person in me grew

The flower and its petal

The root and its grasp

The earth and its bigness

The breath and its gasp

The mind and its motion

The foot and its move

The life and its pattern

The heart and its love

O it's the half-remarkable question.

Then there's the Strawbs. Saw them in Leeds just after Rick Wakeman joined. Downright incredible.
