PM urges people not to ignore flood warnings

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha warned the people to have trust in weather forecasts and warnings of possible flooding from the Meteorological Department and governmental agencies so that they can take precautionary actions to save their properties from being damaged by flood water.

He said that many victims of the recent and ongoing flooding ignored the warnings because they thought their provinces or communities had never been flooded for the past three decades and when flood came they were caught totally unprepared and their properties were damaged.

He noted that there is always enough time to make preparations and to move valuables to higher ground if the people take the warnings seriously because it normally takes quite some time for water to build up and finally resulting in flooding.

People in this area ignored warnings !!!!

What warnings? No warnings were given out.

Just another load of hot air by a man who has no idea what he is talking about.

When you turn those daft village speakers on daily and spout  your propaganda  people tend to switch off, now if you used them occasionally for something like this  they might take heed.

He's just living on another planet. What does he expect people to do when a flood warning is given, what options do they have?

That last big storm a couple of weeks ago was in the papers the day before it came. TV investigators found it was on the weather warning site 3 days before. Even with 3 days notice where do you go what do you do?

Shows his total disconnect with the lives the majority of people have to live.

Our Puyaibaan does exactly this, if we hear the speakers it's something worth listening to.

I expect he will be announcing the free sandbags soon.

Maybe, it's time to turn up the volume on the village loudspeakers.

Turn them on for emergencies only, then they might get listened to.

No no, it's subs, tanks, fighter jets and THEN flood mitigation.

You forget the high speed trains.

They forecast NO severe flooding this year.

They probably saw a cat with 9 legs and decided it was a sign of good luck and no flooding.

I guess you never lived through a flooding, in 2011 when we were flooded we had less then 3 days. Everyone here put their stuff up higher and plugged holes making sure less water would come in. We bought food as a preparation Too bad for many it was too late to bring their cars away as other parts were already flooding. But you can do a lot of things against flooding.

Of course none of this counts if the flooding is more then a meter, but at least your stuff is (relatively) safe. Its about decreasing damages not about all fleeing. That is just like you said not possible for everyone.

Maybe people trust them on the same level they trust an unelected "government" and its propaganda.

yea we are lucky here too that the speakers are not used too much so when they are used people listen to them. So far no real floodings in the area. But you know that those on the river will have it worst when the higher tides are there as less water can be drained. So all the water drained now is a good thing.

I did actually live through it yes, had to buy a boat to get to the shops in Ayutthaya. Nothing has been learned from 2011 has it by either side of the divide.Did you live in an area that was immersed for weeks?

6 weeks or more yes, had the goverment been more honest i would have left, but could not anymore (dogs).

But if you lived through it you know that even a day helps a lot with preparing making sure not all your furniture is destroyed. I took out doors cabinets and all brought them up. Bought supplies and such.

We live on in a house on concrete stilts the water was about 6 inches short of coming through the front door.I dread to think what would have happened had the water got higher as we had nowhere to go.shit situation to be in with kids and like you, dogs.

First floor was flooded, i lived on the second floor (just 20-30 cm water in first). Streets far deeper of course up to a meter or more.

It was a bad situation, but i minimized losses by getting stuff like a fridge and washing machine up. That is the point what I am trying to make.. minimizing losses putting stuff up higher (had a motorbike on a small platform as not to damage it). Car was gone (others were not so fortunate).

Thing is there is a lot you can do if you know you get flooded and in our case like the PM said water moved slow. It did not go up real fast (did not go down real fast either :(  )

What?  The people in NE Thailand have to listen to the TV talks with the beloved PM.

Well  it must be through the PA system,  hope they hear the flood warnings while

they are already up to their knees in the water.
