Secretary-general of the Education Council, Kamol Rodklai, has been transferred.

BANGKOK: -- Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin is unsure why the head of the Office of the Education Council has been transferred, but says it wasn’t his idea.

In accord with a Cabinet resolution on Tuesday, the secretary-general of the Education Council, Kamol Rodklai, has been moved to a “special advisory position” in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Teerakiat said ministerial executives had been informed of the Cabinet decision and noted that the transfer was proposed by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-Ngam.

“I didn’t propose it and this matter is beyond my authority,” Teerakiat said.

He said he believed a contributing factor might have been the installation of CCTV security cameras in 12 school zones in the deep South. A fact-finding panel is looking into that matter, he said.

Teerakiat said he would name the council’s deputy secretary-general as acting secretary-general.

Kamol did not take his usual role as ministry spokesman at Tuesday’s meeting of ministerial executives, but in brief remarks acknowledged the transfer and accepted the Cabinet decision. He declined to comment further.
