DSI says it has no jurisdiction to probe Thawatchai’s death

The Department of Special Investigation announced on Monday that it did not have the jurisdiction to investigate the mysterious death of former Phuket and Phang-nga land official Thawatchai Anukul because it was not regarded as a special case.

However, the DSI is willing and ready to give full cooperation to the Thung Song Hong police in its investigation of the case.

The above remarks were made by Pol Maj Woranan Srilum, deputy spokesman of the DSI in response to public suspicion of the department’s conduct and its alleged cover-up of the cause of the death.

The deputy spokesman clarified that the DSI had no duty to probe Thawatchai’s death because the department had no jurisdiction over the case.  However, he said the DSI could not deny its responsibility because the victim died while he was in the DSI’s custody.

The D.S.I. have no jurisdiction to investigate the mysterious death of  Khun Anukul, BU++++t.

It was not a mysterious death, it was murder by D.S.I. officers.

I'd say the fact it happened on 'secure' DSI premises when he was being investigated by the DSI  makes it a very special case.

I do enjoy the excuses here. I do love when foreigners say you shouldn't mock these kinda things as it's 'their country'. That's why defamation is so strong here. Bad ideas and behaviour find it harder to exist in a society of ridicule. Best say nothing.

Yeah, it´s a small glitch there, I know. They probably meant that it´s gonna be a hell of a mystery to cover up this one.

If we have not already done so, we would all be perfectly justified in despairing of the actions of the DSI and the police.  A man was murdered while in custody for just one day, so despite the convenience of non-operating CCTV cameras, there could only be very few suspects in this case, who actually had access to the victim's cell in that limited amount of time.  Who was it who told the lies about the "hanging" with socks or a shirt?

Here we go again with one department passing the buck for investigation to another section in an attempt not only to delay matters but mainly to ensure that the guilty party or parties are protected.  It is quite clear that the victim was murdered to prevent his naming those higher up the chain of command who benefitted from the dodgy land deals.   It will be interesting to follow developments in this case over probably the next couple of years, or even longer, should any documents need to be translated.
