North Korea ready to teach U.S. 'severe lesson', says U.N. abused its authority

North Korea denounces the latest United Nations sanctions imposed on the isolated state, while world leaders and foreign ministers hold talks about Pyongyang.

MANILA (Reuters) - North Korea is ready to give the United States a "severe lesson" with its strategic nuclear force if it takes military action against it, and will not put its nuclear programme or its missiles on the negotiating table, it said in a statement to a regional meeting on Monday.

In a transcript of a statement by Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho, which was distributed to media in Manila, Pyongyang called new U.N. sanctions "fabricated" and warned there would be "strong follow-up measures" and acts of justice. It said the resolution showed the United Nations had abused its authority.

It said its intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July proved that the entire United States was in its firing range, and those missiles were a legitimate means of self-defence.

It was not immediately clear whether the statement was read to the ASEAN Regional Forum on Monday.

? for christ sakes I do wish those idiots from NK would give it a rest. The regime there is far and away the most repulsive the world has seen in a century or more.

The gulags are overflowing, the regime uses farmland for opium production, food aid is diverted to feed the army, and young orphans are basically sectioned in secure units so they starve to death in isolation.

The problem is unsolvable without intervention of some kind. But China still have their back, and therein lies the major stumbling block..

The sooner China cuts them adrift properly will be the day progress will be made.. appalling situation ?

US: Bring it to an end - before time runs out

agreed; and i would check the prevailing jet streams above n korea; wouldnt shed many tears if it goes over china but , well, s korea, pity there; when the us withdraws a large portion of it's forces stationed in s korea; well.......

i checked it and it doesnt seem like that radiation would be much of a direct threat to thailand

If the US takes them on it will have to be with overwhelming force from the start before they can retaliate

Every day, Kim and his medal-laden generals go through war games.  Have you ever had an argument with an Asian?   They don't warm to the issue, they explode.  Often, an Asian will pretend like all is fine, and/or they'll stare intensely without saying anything - but then they explode.  It's particularly scathing with Asian women.  They go from zero to sixty in 2 seconds.  Before you realize what happened, they will be screaming as if their arms are being pulled off by tractors.

Kim and his generals will go 100% from the first minute if/when war breaks out.   That doesn't bode well for his supply chains and ammo (which may last between 1 and 3 weeks), but that's all secondary in their view.  Primary, for them, is to throw everything at the enemy, as quickly as possible.

Are those long range missiles really a threat ? The few that NK has will be intercepted , and will they all work flawlessly all the way ?  Only chance NK has , is from launches from sub's close to the US, or already smuggled in nukes.

It's not just about the missiles.  Though that is the #1 reason.  It's also about non-proliferation.  I.E. keeping NK from selling nuclear technology/materials to other countries.  Just like Pakistan did for NK.  Sold them technology discretely.

If it's not a pariah state, why waste your time? LOL

Maybe the leader of that nation could change this for the better?  Like Kim can/should do?

Despite the armchair generals itching for a new glorious CNN war against yet another 3rd world country, the reality is that N Korea can respond in a big way if attacked. Doubtful to the US mainland but certainly to Sth Korea and US forces stationed there, perhaps even Japan.

I gather the reason they like to jab the US so much is that they have done the math and don't believe the US would risk it.

Similar stand off situation with Europe, the military don't believe in the fantasy of a Russian invasion that they t have neither the troops nor logistics to pull off. But the politicians seem to want to provoke conflict Again, though doubtful, if NATO attacks Russia on the usual false flag excuse their doctrine is no more wars on their turf and they will respond with tactical nuclear. That is nuking Europe not the US, it would then remain to be seen if the US wanted to then go mutual nuclear wasteland with Russia, and all on behalf of Europe.

It's not like anyone else is in the habit of invading.  Well maybe Russia and China a little bit, but they are just hobbyists.

Hobbyists who hold and occupy places they invade.  Without the consent of the sovereign country.

I don't believe that China, as a state, has ever invaded any country. In fact the issues in that area were exasperated initially given the Japanese colonisation of the Korean peninsula and of course imperialistic moves into China but that is distracting the subject a little.

The US would never win a land war there, simply outnumbered by boots on the ground although they will puff their chests and threaten perhaps before backing down. Lets face it they had 3 years at it 60 odd years ago and the result is the current stalemate and division. The  Chinese won't let it happen either.
