Non-immi 'o' For Marriage

Recommended Posts

This week I went to Kuala Lumpur for the first stage in getting a 'Marriage Visa'.

This first stage is the obtaining of the Non-Immigrant 'O' visa.

As last Monday was a public holiday I had to wait until Tuesday to visit the Royal Thai Embassy (Consular Section) at 206 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. This was easy by taxi, the cost being about 2-3 ringgit (20-30 baht) from any central KL hotel.

The Consulate opens at 09:30, but it is advisable to get there about 15 minutes early, unless it's raining. That way you can be at the front of the queue when the doors open.make sure you have two copies of all documents that are listed on the Immigration website (find it by Google) as well as the originals.

I went in with my wife, was asked what I wanted, given ticket and waited until my number was called. Went to window, wife showed her ID. The girl behind the counter took a look at ID, at our marriage certificate, checked that the photo-copy matched the originals, took a photo-copy version of wife's ID and the marriage cert., my passport and told me to return next day at 11:30 to pick up passport.

Did so.

That's it - quick, easy, painless. Very pleasant compared to many other consulates that I have had to use in the past.

Will recount the experience with the local Immi. people when I go for my Spouse Support extension of stay within the next ninety days.

UP2U, From what I know, you go down after the first 60 days before applying for the one year extension. Just went yesterday for my first and you can read what I did on another post: "I can't believe it" no response. Bit long but that's what happened with me. Good luck :o
