Violence prompts U.S. Congress to discuss militant threats

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. congressional panel next month will hold a hearing on violent extremism, including threats from domestic militants, following a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that turned deadly.

The chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, Republican Michael McCaul, announced the Sept. 12 hearing in a letter to the panel's top Democrat, Bennie Thompson.

The committee holds a hearing once a year, around the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, to discuss worldwide threats.

A committee aide said the Charlottesville protests had prompted the decision to broaden the hearing to include threats from domestic militants.

But Thompson said the move was "not adequate or appropriate" to address his request for a hearing on threats from white supremacists and neo-Nazi groups.

"The September 12 hearing to cover worldwide threats is an annual hearing that was already scheduled prior to the domestic attacks this weekend," Thompson said. "It will not allow us to go into the depth necessary to address the far-ranging and multifaceted aspects of the threat posed by domestic terrorist threats from white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups."

The Homeland Security Committee will invite leaders of the Homeland Security Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Counterterrorism Center, McCaul said.

"We must stand together and reject racism, bigotry, and prejudice, including the hateful ideologies promoted by neo-Nazis, the KKK, and all other white supremacy groups," McCaul wrote in his response to Democrats' request for a hearing.

A 32-year-old woman was killed on Saturday in Charlottesville when a car plowed into a rival protest to white supremacist demonstrators. A 20-year-old Ohio man said to have harboured Nazi sympathies has been charged with murder.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said both sides were to blame for the violence, drawing condemnation from both fellow Republicans and Democrats for failing to single out the white nationalists.

What a bunch of pantywaists. Do they self-censor themselves or are they under pressure from the troika in the Oval Office (Bannon, Trump and Gorka) to not discuss the domestic violence perpetrated by rednecks?

Evidently these are some of "the fine people"? Fast forward to 9:00 to get a feel for the man/fire-power the fine people brought to Charlottesville.

Hmm, so politicians in Congress suddenly worried about these groups that have been around for donks? They never were that concerned before, I wonder what brought on this sudden rush of concern? And will it just like the bogus Russia-gate, somehow all be Trumps fault? Enemies abroad, enemies within, hang on didn't the Nazis use that one?

Perhaps the US will need more spying powers to investigate local subversives? Perhaps they will be identified as a threat as big as terrorism? Perhaps the survival types will also need to be tracked down and dealt with as well? Perhaps they will need a new PC letter organization to deal with this threat so as to keep everybody safe? Ah, the good times just keep getting better...

Congress should be holding a hearing on the threat that sits in the Oval office. By siding with the extremists, and making utterly inane remarks such as "many good people were marching with the right in Charlottesville,  and the demonstrators on the left were just as bad", he is showing support for hate groups, and creating even more divisiveness. He is a fool, and a charlatan. His ability to lead, is limited to a boy scout chapter, or a development company that fleeces it's clients.

He is a public hazard. A threat to national security. A super goon. A neophyte, who wakes up every morning in such a state of misery, and with such a black heart, that he feels the need to inflict it upon others.

Russia Gate bogus? You reading Breitbart?  LOL

What a rant. Did you see Trump's speech? Condemned by almost everyone.

Good gosh.

Dunno.

Perhaps the largest gathering of these jacked-up, armed, racist knuckleheads in decades?

One of whom plowed his 4361 lb. car into dozens of people killing one, putting 19 in the hospital,

5 in critical condition and injuring 34 others.

And then fled the scene of the crime.

In addition to, 2 State Troopers who died because of the mayhem they caused.

And there are some who actually believe it was about a statue.

Or a conspiracy of the "Deep State".

Here's one of their punk leaders:

"I don't know what to do. I need guidance"

I don't think it is a good idea to drive these groups underground. Trump is right about one thing, 'where do you stop'?  I don't want all my money with old time presidents on them to be taken away because they owned slaves. I also don't want reverend Sharpton on my dollar bills. (oh oh, the thought police will be investigating me now)
