george Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Danish fugitive arrested in Thailand BANGKOK: -- Thai immigration police have arrested a 30-year-old Danish man who will be deported to his home country to face fraud charges, police said Thursday. Martin Damslund Jensen was arrested in downtown Bangkok Wednesday, after a request from the Danish embassy. Police said he was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by court in Herlev, northwest of Copenhagen. Jensen fled to Thailand in November last year, after he was accused of fraud and falsifying documents in Denmark. Police said he bought a car with counterfeit documents, and defrauded businesses of about 30 million baht (840,000 dollars) in August 2006. The suspect was living with his Thai wife in the northeastern province of Kalasin before he travelled to Bangkok Wednesday and was apprehended. --AFP 2007-01-04
stef24 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 so they really can track you down up in the sticks and monitor your movements. wow. does denmark have an extradition treaty (?) with thailand? otherwise the thais wouldnt make this effort, right?
TAWP Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 They can deport whoever they want back to their homecountries. Only that if a extradition-agreement exists, they 'cannot' refuse if the terms of the agreement is filled.

Spot on TAWP. Any country can kick out any other country's national for any reason they like. Except England of course who just wrings it's hands for years.

In my experience, private financing works much better than international treaties or arrest warrants.
Scott Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Yes, they can deport anyone. John Mark Karr, if you recall, was not extradited. He was simply deported as an "undesirable person;" or something like that.
stef24 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 ive been deported! but the fact that they tracked him down and followed him into bangkok means they must have had some kind of motivation, either $$$ or sticking to the extradition treaty
