Cambodia denies harbouring Yingluck

Cambodia has denied allowing former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to transit through the country en route to Dubai after she fled judgement in a court case against her last week. Prime Minister Hun Sen told a meeting of 5,000 factory workers in Phnom Penh there was no record of Ms Yingluck coming through the country.

His comments on the issue were yesterday published to Facebook by Information Minister Khieu Kanharith, who attended the meeting at Koh Pich. “All airlines checked on Ms Yingluck’s disappearance and alleged travel through Cambodia,” Mr Hun Sen said. Rumours relating to Ms Yingluck’s escape have been running wild since she failed to show up on Friday morning for the Supreme Court ruling in her trial for dereliction of duty in managing her government’s loss-ridden rice-pledging scheme.

She faces up to ten years in prison and a lifetime ban from politics if convicted. According to the Bangkok Post, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday afternoon ordered security authorities to check border crossings for Ms Yingluck.

Yingluck Shinawatra escape via Cambodia mere ‘rumour’, officials say

Cambodian officials yesterday dismissed media reports that former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra fled the country to Dubai via Cambodia ahead of a court decision, saying they had “no record” of such activity and calling the reports “rumours”.

Yingluck was scheduled to appear at the Thai Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders on Friday but failed to show up. The court was going to announce a decision on her alleged negligence in a rice-pledging scheme that ended up costing the country $8 billion.

After she didn’t appear in court, border officials told the Bangkok Post that they were quite certain Yingluck had left Thailand by sea. The officials and another source with the Royal Thai Navy speculated that Yingluck could have boarded a speedboat from Rayong to an island such as Koh Chang, Koh Kood or Koh Laoya, in Trat province, before travelling on to Cambodia.

Former Thai PM Yingluck didn't use Cambodia to escape: Cambodian PM

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Sunday denied that former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had used Cambodia to flee Thailand.

Hun Sen made the remarks during a closed-door weekly meeting with some 4,400 garment workers at Koh Pich Grand Theatre in Phnom Penh, the minister said, without giving other details.

The denial came after media reported that the former Thai prime minister fled her country through Cambodia and Singapore for Dubai earlier this week, after she failed to show up at a court trial.

Thailand's Supreme Court issued an arrest warrant for Yingluck on Friday after she failed to appear in court on the judgment day of a rice lawsuit filed against her.

The Supreme Court postponed the reading of the verdict for the case against Yingluck until Sept. 27. Her lawyer had reported that the former leader was suffering from Meniere's disease and feeling dizzy and thus was unable to attend.

Sources from Yingluck's Pheu Thai Party told the media Saturday that Yingluck had left Thailand last week and flew via Cambodia and Singapore to Dubai where her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, lives in self-imposed exile.

The security sucked plain and simple.

More than likely the junta top dogs have been taking acting lessons.  There are plenty of scary, nameless men under government employ that could have tailed her.  Letting her flee is probably the smartest thing the junta has done since usurping office.

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen.

CAMBODIA yesterday denied widespread reports that former PM Yingluck Shinawatra fled Thailand to a third country through Cambodia.

Cambodia’s Information Minister Khieu Kanharith wrote in his Facebook: “Yingluck did not use Cambodia to escape: Hun Sen”.

Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen made the remarks during a closed-door weekly meeting with some 4,400 garment workers at Koh Pich Grand Theatre in Phnom Penh, the minister said. No further details were given.

Yingluck failed to show up at Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders last Friday to hear the verdict on her alleged negligence in the rice-pledging scandal.

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said Yingluck had already left the Kingdom to a destination beyond neighbouring countries.

Several unconfirmed destinations have been reported for Yingluck.

However, in each scenario, Cambodia is the initial transit point.

Apart from Hun Sen, the Phnom Penh Post online reported that Cambodian officials also dismissed media reports, saying they had “no record” of such activity and calling the reports “rumours”.

Chhay Buna, who is in charge of border checkpoints, claimed it was just a “rumour, and not true”.

Sok Sophorn, deputy chief of the Passport Department, dismissed reports that Yingluck was issued Khmer passport.

Immigration Department’s spokesman Kerm Sarin, maintained there was no report in the system of Yingluck having departed to Singapore from Cambodia.

Gone and more than likely very very far from hell.  Would imagine somebody peeling her a grape at this very moment.

What do you mean with "peeling at her grape"?
