OK, from another thread

Just heard curfew in Pattaya from 6pm In Bangkok from 8pm

If there is a curfew here tonight, why earlier than Bangkok?

Its hard to believe, the 6 pm curfew, but anyway, is there a curfew on here or not?

to my knowledge not, only bkk 8 pm - 6 am.

whats going on in and around pattaya. i won't leave my home tonight, maybe only for some quick shopping at 7/11.

No. The CRES announcement clearly says nearby cities and provinces in the north and northeast but did not specify them exactly! Don't know if Chonburi city and Pattaya are nearby enough. Not sure where the 6 pm rumor comes from either. This is ridiculous. I am also skeptical about this but we need to know. There are reports of "rioting" somewhere in Chonburi but yet to hear reports of exactly where in the province.

Correct, at Thai Oil Refinery on Sukhumvit near Sri Racha, started at about 12:30, this seems to have included a bomb threat to the refinery. Might be a good idea to avoid that area. No info about the current situation

Update: Robinson Sri Racha now closed because of red shirts

The government announcements on Thai TV in English make no mention of a curfew outside of Bangkok, so I think it is safe to assume that the rumour is probably just mischief making.

I'm all for a bit of fun and leg pulling, but considering the terrible tragedies that are unfolding in Bangkok and elsewhere, IMHO it is in extremely bad taste to make jokes on these threads about the troubles and whether or not there is a curfew in Pattaya.

Many of us have friends and family in Bangkok and even many folk here are very worried that the violence may spread to Pattaya- and it might well do that.

Bangkok is being torched - it aint funny.

So how about keeping the black humour to Bedlam forums , guys?

Yes Bangkok being torched is not funny or funny remarks being made is uncalled for, Red leaders said Bangkok will burn, they hand themselves in or go on the run, and now Bangkok is indeed burning in parts, coincidence or what ?, pre-planned..?....

Thaksin openly threatened to take the fight to the provinces with his "trump card" which means his remaining friends in the Thai military. It is too early to say that Pattaya is off limits to the reds.

The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) has announced curfew in Bangkok and nearby cities and provinces in the North and Northeast earlier placed under emergency law.

I agree 100% with Mobi, the situation in Bangkok etc. is not one that should be subject to ridicule.

Jingthing, I think the key words in the CRES announcement are the provinces in the North and Northeast, though everybody should take care and be very aware over the coming days, regardless of location.

Not only that, there are a lot of factories now trying to decide how and when to send their shift workers home tonight as clear information about the curfew applying to Chonburi is not available.

Over the last few years argued with some on here agreed with many more. Safe with my family at present here in Hong Kong, so would just like to wish all of you in Thailand the best of luck and stay safe.

There have been no announcements about a curfew in Pattaya.

The official announcement mentioned 'nearby cities' but Pattaya is over 100 kms from Bangkok so it can't be considered 'nearby'.

My guess is that most places are closing early because they fear trouble.

Earlier, Central announced that all their stores nationwide would be shut except the ones at Chonburi and Pattaya. Now they seem to have changed their minds about Pattaya.

Regardless of whether there is an official curfew, IMO, it makes sense to stay indoors tonight and keep a low profile.

The situation is extremely volatile and farangs could become targets of disgruntled redshirts.

I can't see any red shirts from here and the staff would get calls from their friends if there was any trouble in or around Pattaya.

Don't know whether to pay my bill and go home or stay and drink my latte?

Curfew or not, today I am not really in the mood to go out.

Zen at Central World BKK destroyed (maybe even the entire complex) and all the other crazy things!

Better not to see any person reminding me of a Red Shirt these days....

Does anybody have the definitive answer - curfew in Pattaya tonight , yes or no? :)

You'll never get definite answers in Thailand, I am afraid. :D

I assume nobody really knows.

I just got a sms message from my partner who is at work in a restaurant in Jomtien, told me not to go out tonight , red shirts in Pattaya "boom" whatever that means. Im staying home, like many I was hoping it would end without further loss of life and I feel for those affected plus of course the huge loss of business. With buildings being set on fire one has to wonder where it is all going to end. A very sad period in the history of this lovely country.
