  1. What a grouch, or is it grinch?
  2. Yes, the buses from there run very frequently......they use big buses, much better than a minivan, and getting to the North Rd bus station from Jomtien... use a motorcycle taxi, or baht bus to North Rd, your own transport and park next to the bus station....all depending you have not got baggage. If you do, get a taxi. The Ekamai buses run down Sukhumvit in Bangkok so there are opportunities to get off before there and get onto the Skytrain earlier... On-Nut for example.
  3. That is the attention grabbing first paragraph... I hope you read further... In comparison, a 1,000-megawatt coal-fired power station produces approximately 300,000 tonnes of ash and more than 6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, every year. Many countries live with nuclear power on their doorstep, The alternatives really are at the moment creating far more worries.... The US produces more nuclear power than any other country, followed by France. I am of the opinion it should be developed. We have yet to come up with other real contenders to supply our energy needs, while at the same time eliminating fossil fuels. Source.
  4. We tend to live in fear but do we need to? https://world-nuclear.org/nuclear-essentials/what-is-nuclear-waste-and-what-do-we-do-with-it.aspx
  5. I think I would put the first more at Putin's door... as to FTX, Biden would not have a clue.... nor is it of global impact. Not saying he is not corrupt... but I do not see the dramatic mess he alone has made of the world.
  6. Twelve billion population by then? Something will have to give.....
  7. Sorry, are you talking of not wearing masks or the wearing of them.... or just blathering?
  8. More of the same...... not enough arm for more time pieces!
  9. I had been told this was getting more difficult.. some years ago actually. Some were told simply to go use the ATM machine outside. Previously this was being used with foreign ATM cards to bypass the 220 baht surcharge. Have you done this yourself?
  10. Relative to what.... USD has lost value relative to THB since early NOV and AUD in the last 10 days?
  11. Yes I think this likely... non-domiciles are too more trouble than they are worth to the banks. I have found so far HSBC will accommodate, and ones offshore, eg in Jersey or IOM. State pensions can go into those.... I have no UK address and if I claimed one, eg a relative's, they start asking for rather difficult proof of address.
  12. In developing countries more.....
  13. I don't believe it is.... but not eating beef seems commonplace. My Mrs also does not eat lamb, duck, shellfish, offal.....(yet will eat laab moo which has various bits and pieces).
  14. I used to stay at a place on North Rd and get there at 3pm or so..... plenty of folks later struggling to get down the little sois towards the beach.... but you would be lucky to park.... even if you had a booking. Come late and they will have sold the parking.
  15. Many years ago I used to splurge and get a Club Room at the Dusit... with a balcony facing the beach. The late complimentary afternoon cocktails (beer) and free snacks was a nice way to get in the mood. But my Mrs didn't want to sit on the balcony, despite it being a perfect location, she wanted to meet friends down on The Beach, so it was a bit of a waste. Then they refurbished the hotel, and prices went silly.....
  16. Which Police are 'region 2' then? Looks like it is the big nightclubs getting bothered, which will be full of Thais rather than tourists.. many have had a few days off work and they can't move around Bangkok as the roads are closed for APEC summit. Have a few at my house now!
  17. Seems to be general News, my Mrs has heard the story in Thai too.....
  18. Bad roads....yes.... but problems that have been created by poor or incomplete construction (that seems to go on interminably) is what we mostly have here.
  19. That'll teach them, bet they are all a tither in Qatar!
  20. Biden will be having his usual Lucky Charms.....
  21. Connection to a bank can be made wirelessly, and it isn't so much a card reader required as a contactless payment device about the size of a mobile phone. In fact mobile phones will likely be able to do the job at some point. Look for the sign.
  22. I thought they had simply stopped the selling of booze outside of the stadiums. Not sure about inside, but previously it was only available in hotels anyhow I believe. Strikes me as a good idea, brawling drunk soccer fans is not what we want to see.
  23. I guarantee you will be sick to death of 'Jingle Bells' by January!
