  1. I'm scared of them too but I don't tell anybody that because it's just way too embarrassing.
  2. Something that, judging by the responses, most posters in here have never experienced.
  3. Yes I know. I already responded to another fella who said the same...in short I posted a flippant response to what I assumed (and I think rightly) was an uninformed opinion. As of yet Indonesia is yet to sink into the morass of what they call locally Darul Islam. I spent a considerable amount of time in Jakarta in the late '90s and early '00s so I'm quite aware of the slow progression towards full Islamic rule. I wasn't there for the fall of Soeharto but I did have some exposure to the aftermath. At one point the FPI (Islamic Defenders Front), emboldened by their new found freedom from being disappeared, decide to smash up JJ's in Tanah Abang because of alcohol, drugs and prostitution. ie. all the good things about Jakarta. That and Diskotek Stadium ???? I was on Jalan Jaksa when a rumour went around that the FPI was coming down to smash up the place too. Luckily that didn't transpire although we were kind of hoping they'd come down so that the local mafia could sort them out. Obviously that was a long time ago but that was when, imho, the rot set. The thin end of the wedge as you said.
  4. Yes, I understand all of that and thanks for a concise summation of the current state of affairs. I gave a flippant answer to what I assumed was an uninformed comment. The creeping 'Arabasition' is of great concern. The descent into the dreaded Darul Islam seems inevitable but one still hopes for a more positive outcome.
  5. Indonesia is NOT a "Muslim country" at all. Ever heard of Pancasila?
  6. Where I see it being a problem for tourists or long-stay foreigners is if you're shacked up with a local and you p##s someone off. Then they go to the family and press them to make a police complaint.
  7. Yes, but only with a certain type of girl. The nastier the better ????
  8. Because Indonesian girls are sexy and they like sex. Well the ones I used to date were like that ????
  9. Why were you shocked? That's the reason Pattaya was invented, so you could have a sunrise beer at the beach and then stagger back to your cheap digs. Safer that way too, all the pickpockets should have skedaddled by then.
  10. Same here. That's why I used an agent to facilitate my 'retirement visa' and is why I break as many laws as I think I can get away with. Oh, and I keep a nice big wedge in my pocket because money talks here. 500 baht and a wai ????????????
  11. neither have I, had to look it up. here's one of the the wee beasties. I think he's saying "See You Jimmy"
  12. Not to the young people who listen to all that hippity hop music. You put a clip in yo' gat and dead all them homeys. That's the G-rated version because this is a family show ????
  13. Cool, just making sure. Some dudes don't know or forget about re-entry permits and have to start all over again upon their return.
  14. There ain't no such beast. I think you're referring to a Multiple Re-Entry Permit which is applied for separately to the non-O extension. Perhaps you got one at the same time as the extension for convenience's sake. If you leave the country without either a single or a multiple Re-Entry Permit then your visa/extension is null and void.
  15. AFAIK that option is only available for Bangkok Bank customers and Wise cannot guarantee that the funds will be marked as "FTT" meaning international transfer. There are quite a few threads on here about the Wise software failing in this regard. So something to be mindful of. Wise's local banking partner is Kasikornbank and apparently there are no such issues if you have a K-Bank account.
  16. That's a new one! ???? BTW the kids these days are calling it "the Koh San road" where San is pronounced like Sand without the D.
  17. It's the perfect antidote to your constant negativity. It was either that or "seek professional help".
  18. It's the buy rate that's the problem, not the sell rate.
  19. This fine, but would you mind sending us a link to this St Margaret's place as all I can find is the one in SJC which is miles away from Bell Gardens.
