  1. About the only way you can avoid it, without possibly getting into complicated trusts, is to try and become non domiciled which from my readings is also very hit and miss. There have been one or two threads on here but not sure anyone has actually come back to say they have definitively achieved it. I for one would be interested to hear of any solutions you come up with.
  2. Whatever the relative increase is the headline "profit" vs revenue seems very high to me And the year hasn't even finished yet - depending on this company's fiscal......... I am guessing also this is gross profit before taking off a myriad of other items..........
  3. Which means what exactly? Unless you are referring to government/civil service pensions the DTA with Thailand specifically excludes other pensions. See this link and scroll to page 34 and within Thailand look at note 4 on the far right..... https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf
  4. Similar (but different) warning covered here back in April https://aseannow.com/topic/1292075-buying-a-cheap-android-box/
  5. Interesting thanks. Which PC policy would you have gone for as they have quite a few...... I was with Passport Card/David Shield and changed to April Int end of 2021 because they hiked their premium 30% mid band - apparently with everybody. Up to that point they were by far the best value cover for, if memory serves me, $1m...... I have been looking at Cigna but the Close Care has a yearly condition maximum of £165k so for something like cancer/heart stuff not sure if that is enough and the Silver Care is more expensive (but higher cover) than April Basic. I think @Sheryl had Cigna before, if I remember correctly, but switched to April? (Apologies if wrong and must have been another poster.)
  6. Unfortunately mine at the Pattaya branch did not even though my query was directed to him personally for which I can see no excuse. I have already officially notified April to remove AA World as my broker from my renewal date in 2 months 9the earliest they would action it) and they have confirmed that. Thanks for the info on your new broker. I may follow your lead but still undecided whether to continue with April.
  7. Can I ask Sheryl how you found them or what sold you on them particularly compared to anybody else?
  8. You have missed previous posts on this subject. Thailand based agents are apparently not allowed to sell International based policies........ AA Insurance was bought by the Alliance Insurance group late last year or earlier this year and they have opened a new broker called AA World based in India to handle International policies. AA Insurance in Thailand can now only offer Thailand based insurance. The Alliance group also sell their own policies under the Regency brand so of course AA World tried to push those on me.......... And no I didn't receive any notification of this change either and only found out when I queried something with the AA Insurance agent I had been dealing with.
  9. Yes I do all the time on my Asda PAYG sim. No charge to receive. OP could actually get giffgaff to send one of their sims to him here in Thailand. However be aware there is another thread where someone had their Smarty (uses 3 as provider) sim suspended -
  10. Thanks for that observation. That's why I was asking. Just doesn't sound feasible to me but perhaps that's something 'lost in translation' in the original report.
  11. Understand that but if caught they actually lose all future pension benefits - is this both state and private do you know?
  12. yes the same online portal that never acknowledged receipt of my query (twice) and took over 2 weeks to reply........
  13. Yes thanks. I have Asda which fortunately changed to Vodafone a couple of years ago.
  14. As a follow up I know a number of posters use giffgaff sims. Just looking at their "Fair Usage Policy" - https://www.giffgaff.com/terms#giffgaff-fair-usage-policy Under Roaming - So not quite as equivocal as the Three statement but it surprises me however that according to, I think, @scubascuba3 they will send a new sim to a Thai address? The statement above is also word for word O2 fair usage policy (who are giffgaff's network) and the potential supposed charging penalties do not seem to be a problem......currently...... Vodafone is similar so @HauptmannUK perhaps your friend should try one of providers using Voda or O2 networks.
  15. Thanks. This is potentially a very major problem for anybody with UK financial stuff if other UK networks follow suit............. Worrying for me anyhow.
  16. From the link This is referring to those who have taken "early retirement" at 55 which is stated as the retirement age.... So legally are they forbidden to work again even if they want to at risk of losing whatever they are due?
  17. Thanks for posting as I don't remember ever seeing this reference before when the subject has come up (which it has often) and it just seemed to be the "accepted practice". Curious though why you want a factual explanation - or are you just curious?
  18. It may only be me but I am finding news reports seemingly written with AI "inspiration" more and more irritating to read. I can't read Thai but is the report an accurate translation of the original?
  19. You have an example of this and what "western" country are you referring to specifically? And please describe what exactly you base you last sentence on because that seems a bit like scaremongering.......
  20. Just to make you feel worse you should be aware that the DTA between UK and Thailand specifically excludes pensions unless government (civil service). So in theory we could end up being taxed twice depending on how this plays out. The state pension does not count as govt. either ....... See Thailand on page 34 on the linked document and look across to note 4 on the far right. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf
  21. Anybody else pick this up in the linked article - Specifically "incurable disease"....... Considering how little is being revealed, supposedly due to privacy, I am surprised that was slipped into the report.....
  22. Unfortunately the only pensions covered under the DTA between UK and Thailand are government - that is civil service. Private pensions and state pension are specifically not covered. This has come up numerous times. Easiest way is to look at the Digest of DTAs - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf Go to page 34, Thailand look at note 4 on the far right of the page.
  23. I think you are referring to CRS? If so that is something completely separate to the proposal announced by the new PM and being discussed here.
